But, have you disabled any power saving features both from the manufacturer and the OS?
Yes, and all permissions have been granted. I think it's just buggy as another person posted about similar issues.
I wonder if something like LineageOS would be suitable for you?
I used LineageOS many years ago, but my current phone isn't well supported by any third-party ROM, and I'm not really interested in changing up the OS until at least after the warranty period is up.
300mw of solar would be between 1,500 and 3,000 acres of land. 300mw SMR could be as low as 10-20 acres.
In that context, it may still be better to plan for solar panels on all roofs in new developments.
Just taking one example of Whitby, Ontario, which only has a population of around 140,000. Using a quick and dirty measurement of the developed area from the waterfont to Taunton Rd., there's over 12,000 acres of area used up by mostly homes and other buildings (schools, retail, etc.).
You may not even need to have EVERY roof covered to meet the demands of a municipality like that. This makes it even more compelling because you have room to expand the capacity, if needed. And it still comes with the benefit of having multiple redundancies, being self-sustainable, offering residents free or extremely low-cost electricity (or even be paid to put energy back into the grid!), etc.
Anyway, this fantasy is unlikely to happen in Ontario. LOL
Rather unfortunately, my phone doesn't have good custom ROM support, but I generally don't have a problem re: worrying about spyware for a few reasons:
It's been pretty easy to replace stock apps with privacy-friendly and/or FOSS alternatives.
Nearly all stock apps on my phone can be disabled, which I've done for essentially all google/Oneplus apps.
I run a tracker blocker (Adguard) on my phone, and it blocks anything built into the OS. And, for apps like Google Photos, I can block all internet access and use the app "offline" for the features I need.
I'm happy with the user experience I get out of my phone, so I'm not motivated to really change the entire OS.
That said, I'm happy to hear that LineageOS is still a thing! I was using it many years ago, and I'm sure it's only gotten better since then.
enough electricity to supply about 300,000 homes
The estimated construction cost of the initial reactor is $7.7 billion
Interesting. That comes out to just over $25,000 per home, assuming it's delivering power to 300,000 homes.
I wonder what it would cost to fit those 300,000 homes (or the roofs of large buildings) with solar, wind, and other green tech... interlinking communities to their wider municipality, and the rest of the province for redundancy.
Top end solar systems for the "average" home in Ontario would be around the same $25,000 price tag - one time - and would pay for itself in under 10 years, saving home owners from having to worry about rising energy costs.
Would it be most cost-effective? More sustainable? More eco-friendly?
Yes, believing a lie (or hundreds of them) could explain it. But when you're talking about trump, especially on a second term, you can't claim ignorance!
But as a Canadian of immigrants, I feel like we should be lifting each other up, not "shutting the door" behind us (great description, btw!).
a significant number of NDP supporters - probably “working class” supporters - seemed to flip to the Conservatives, and not the Liberals.
Yes, and this is incredibly troubling.
There were many surprising conservative votes in the GTA (resulting in quite a few flipped seats). What I don't understand, is how do municipalities with large immigrant populations, vote for a party of anti-immigrants?
We saw in the States many Latinos voting for Trump. What are you thinking at that point??
Many reasons, but people who lack critical thinking skills will generally only need one other person to agree with them, for confirmation bias to entrench itself.
But the situation is even worse than that, because these days, the "other person" doesn't even have to be real. A bot spreading disinformation can have the same effect as a person spouting nonsense.
And social media gives the tiniest minority the appearance of having a massive voice. Someone who is on the fence might see other Holocaust deniers online and think that there are millions of like-minded people like them.
When this spreads beyond Holocaust denial and into social and human rights causes, you have a disaster in the making. Those same people will make real decisions off their manipulated beliefs, and that hurts everyone.
Immich, I believe, is linked to Futo. And Futo has a license model that's basically "if you like this app, and want to support the development, consider buying a license."
Sounds like it might be similar with Immich.
Better than "donate to this project", since a license seems more like the user is getting something out of it, even if it's basically a glorified donation 😂
