  • Yes, I am a maintainer for a 4 years old device, and I would love to be able to buy it new today! New battery and all.

  • Xiaomi. Or poco, redmi... Same stuff. For 200 bucks you get awesome phones and you can usually always remove stock and install LineageOS. They are all freely uockable and still under warranty after that.

Get a model near its end of market life, buy new the oldest you can find... Unlock, install LineageOS, enjoy.

I bought my Poco X3 NFC for 160€ 4 years ago and still rocks today with LineageOS 21 (Android 14).

(It usually take 6 months to 1 year for each new model to get LineageOS support, so don't buy the latest model Also worth looking if there is official support on LineageOS before buy, or at least some unofficial ports).

  • Of course, Gentoo with mdadm! I am running Linux software raid for the last... 20 years? And never had a single issue.

Also a big Gentoo fan, and of course use podman instead of docker :)

  • I don't use NPM but directly nginx. All my nginx general setup and per-service specific settings are here: https://wiki.gardiol.org

There is a global page for the reverse proxy, and then each service I tried/use has its own setup page.

  • I use nginx reverse proxy on Jellyfin (and a bunch of other services as well) and it's working great. Maybe you have some weird setup or complex situation.

  • Indeed, in fact, as soon as the above questions are satisfied, that's when you stop.

  • Do not marry the first girl you fuck (or the first boy, either way, mixed ways too, anytype anyway).

Go live with him/her, share an apartment (do not buy together) for months, live together for some time.

Possibly, break up and meet more people, rinse and repeat until you understand:

    • what you WANT in the other person
    • what you EXPECT from the other person

And more important even, learn to understand the other person for what he/she is and not what you think he/she is.

  • Connection closed means somebody is listening to the port and failing/not willing to reply.

Unless some network middlemen is closing your connection (ssh should be on port > 1024 to be safe from ISP throttling), your ssh server is severely strained (oom, disk full...) or your F2B is kicking in.

  • Agreed. First of all that would make running backups more complex, and would require either manual interaction, or very careful automation of some kind.

And any public facing service (like blog and some stuff) would still need to be accessible somehow, so...

  • I have solar, so the power consumption is negligible, I am already mostly selling yo the network and not "consuming" most of the days. Also, the server stuff sits in a sound proofed and ventilated compartment in the most remote area of the house.

    20 years of planning ahahahahah

Past the times when it was sitting in my bedroom.

  • 24/7 of course, that's the point of it. But I have solar, so I don't mind consuming power, and its not thatuxh a yway, so, anyway...

What's the point in turning it off at all???

  • Definitely yes. I only see positive benefits by using a reverse proxy. From the fun of learning new stuff to the added security (which is never a downside) and being ready to expose outside in a future.

  • I have nothing against OpenStreetMao, and in fact I use it quite a bit, even contribute (using StreetComplete app).

But the reasons I use google maps and find it unreplaceable is trafic information, which is quite good and there is no real alternative.

    That's unfortunate.

  • I already have my arrs, but often I find difficult to locate it in my native language, while Amazon Prime has them all, in my native language.

Another way would be to find the Italian audio track and put it on an english movie...

(I also have Usenet, but Italian content there is even worse than torrents)

  • That would be perfectly acceptable where I live and work. No nudity, no tits, no genitals, move along...

On the other hand, anime in general is relegated to teens more than not here, so any anime would raise eyebrows if seems browsing from my phone by others given I am definitely not a teen by large.

YMMV, but different cultures different sensibility.

Should Lemmy be a MCM or a MCD? I think this should be the question.

  • It's still a form of art, specially the "big" ones. The hand-handled one are totally useless and can disappear from the world for what I care.

In general, they are dangerous and should be banned overall. But won't happen any time soon.

  • Personally I hate them and I think they are more harm than good.

Let's do some clarification: I can appreciate the high in the sky fireworks, while I simply hate those you fire by hand in between the legs of other bystanders.

Overall I think they are dangerous and should not be freely sold, while keep doing the big ones in the sky.

But, honestly, a form of art that harms so many people and animals maybe should be banned after all.

  • I found way easier to setup via pip, but ofc YMMV. Note that Garmin integration is a separate container if you go that route.
