  • What does GeForce NOW offer that isn't already on Linux? My drivers are updated automatically, and streaming through Moonlight/Sunshine is incredibly easy to setup. Okay, GeForce NOW can customize the settings of all of my games, but I've literally never used that feature because the settings they suggest are awful anyway.

  • Using WINE or Proton should work then you can use winetricks or protontricks to install the specific component you need if the game doesn't already install it.

  • When it comes to art the goal is to make the person experiencing the art feel something. Whether that be awe, happiness, sadness, anger, etc. The 1st place winner gave me (and apparently most people) a more intense emotional reaction so it's better art.

Now, as for the skill level on display, the 2nd one obviously takes more skill, but skill is only one component of art and depending on your end goal it can be completely unimportant to the piece.

So no, democracy didn't fail, it delivered exactly what it should have in this instance.

  • Oh I didn't see the part about it being docked. I was just trying to help because I think a lot of people are scared to use the new features and the trackpads are actually amazing for games that require the precision of a mouse.

  • You should consider trying setting the control scheme to "trackpad as mouse". Using the trackpad as a mouse feels very natural and similar to using a mouse and is much easier than using external devices imo. Just a thought in case you didn't know about that!

  • This is a pretty roundabout way of saying back-end vs front-end.

  • Oh okay. Well if the game has aim assist, you should get the benefits of aim assist if you're using the joysticks as joysticks in the control scheme.

  • You can change the controls to your liking. There are a few presets like: trackpad as mouse, standard controller using joysticks, etc. And you can just select the one that matches your desired experience as closely as possible and then tweak it even further.

Also, there are tabs under the control selection screen to look at community control schemes and it will show how many collective hours are played under each scheme so you can be fairly well assured that it's a good control scheme before you try it out.

  • I'm at a loss, what could it mean?

  • Are you on a laptop using hybrid graphics by chance? Switching to dedicated graphics might help in that case.

  • Companies need to stop with this shit already. Although, I suspect some of the push towards kernel level anti-cheat actually has more to do with governments pushing for backdoor access to everything. Operating Systems have mostly shut them down, so now they may be turning to anti-cheat systems to weasel their way in there.

  • I wonder how the other celestial deities will weigh in. My guess is that Eminem is safe, as he has achieved Rap God status, and they all act like they forgot about Dre so he's safe.

  • Oh, then sorry, I doubt I can help you with this issue, unfortunately... I'm pretty rusty on Windows in general. Good luck!

  • Uttering death threats is a crime in most nations. So they would hopefully be put in jail long before they acted upon those thoughts. If someone is that disturbed then there's something wrong with them on a fundamental level -- be that nature or nurture. What I would hope for that person is that they're locked away from society, but treated as well as they can be considering some safety measures need to be in place for even prison guards to interact with someone like that.

I'm not arguing at all that we never lock anyone up, that's absurd and anyone who thinks that is probably intentionally misunderstanding my meaning. I just think that treating people with as much dignity and respect as we can is the right thing to do in all circumstances. Dehumanizing and othering people is what fascists do, if we want to call ourselves the good guys, we can't act like fascists. It's just plain wrong, and it's evil.

  • I'm guessing you're on Linux, right? And is Steam installed through flatpak or your OS's package manager?

I'm asking because I wonder if Steam has installed some dependencies that aren't available system-wide. I know on Debian based distros you generally want the steam-devices package installed which provides a lot of compatibility for various controllers.

  • Human rights are bigger than just the United States. What happens there is a pretty atrocious infringement on the rights of inmates. It's not surprising though, considering the US prison system is essentially just modern slavery and that there are corporations who have a vested interest in dehumanizing the inmates so they can exploit them as slave labor without anyone objecting.

  • It really is easy to lose track of how far we've come until we look back. Thanks for this!

  • How's your life going? Is everything okay at home? Work? There must be a reason you're trying to take out your frustrations on people online?
