Sorry if I missed this in the article. But what is the reason we can't just expand the number of residents? It seems like the issue isn't foreign intrest taking the slot, but that there isn't enough slots to meet demand. Wich seems like a thing we should be able to fix.

This is true. Green party was pretty big in my hometown and the local representative was great. But it was considered a "waste of a vote" to vote on them so everyone left leaning often voted for the liberals out of fear that the conservatives whould get in if they didn't.

I'll give it a bit longer if they havnt gotten this one yet either I'd just be spamming them. I'm sure that, if this is the right way to get this done, they will eventually get around to it.

Regardless of what side your on as a Canadian I'd warn you that you need ranked voting for this kind of thing to work. We don't have that here.

We have one prominently right party and 2 left parties. This heavily skews the votes towards the right as left votes are being split between 2 parties. Often as a left voter you have to vote for the more popular party even if you don't like them in order to keep the right leaning party from winning.

Ranked voting would fix this issue but neither of the 2 popular parties on eatch side, who can fix this want to fix it. Both the popular left and right parties work to supress all other parties.

If your not getting ranked voting that 3rd party will only exist to split the vote for whatever side its on.

Not sure this actually works. I made a simular request a few weeks back for another abandoned community but didn't hear back from any mods. Best of luck though.

I thinks folks are being a little harsh about it. The console wars are long over and he's been in a few Nintendo titles. I think it's a cool nerf gun.

Well creating a new community on a separate instance whould be a good plan B. For the purposes of making it easy to find for new users and not having dozens of dead communities with the same name it makes more sense to me to just use the one that exist. It would also provide a corner stone of users and post. That is unless somone else already made another community for this elsewhere but nothing came up in my searches for it.

From my understanding based on other post on here this is somthing that can be done by the instance mods. If I ask nicely enough.

That's a very bizzare question. But, as mentioned on the community. I was a fan of it back in the day, appreciating it's innovative approach to interactive multimedia at a time I was studying that very subject. I think there is still a lot we can learn from it mistakes and all.

Also there's a lot of younger folks still involved with the community, by giving them a place on Lemmy to share, and reminisce I feel will benfit lemmy as a whole.
