  • I was so disappointed when this guy won his election. Less than a month before the election he denied a potentially innocent man a stay of execution even after the victim's family asked him to. He is a straight up murderer as well as everyone who supports him.

  • Um I never said anything about giving control to anyone... in fact I specifically said "voluntarily"... you seem like an angry person who is looking for things to be mad about. I'm not sure how you jumped to calling me a nazi.

I have thought about what I'm saying, have you? Unwanted pregnancies are something that by definition nobody wants. All I said was that this could be a way to address that, and you took that simple idea and ran to crazy town with it.

  • I'll never understand people who complain about population decline. It's a good thing. There are too many people here already. My thought on reading the headline was that it could be used in a different way. Everyone could be voluntarily sterilized, and then when they are ready and willing to have a kid they could use this new method to produce sex cells. No more unwanted pregnancies.

  • Sure. Anyone with nukes could give them to anyone else, but what happens after? If someone gave Iran nukes, then what's to stop the US or France or somebody giving nukes to Ukraine or Taiwan. Ultimately it's too big a risk. Even if two countries are close allies now doesn't mean they will always be, and the nukes can't be taken back once given.

  • Passing an exam sounds good to me, but the paranoid part of me thinks that requirement could be manipulated and corrupted. Even so, that would only give you a pool to select from. It doesnt decide who gets which position. As far as having peer selection, that would be very vulnerable to turning into a good ole boy network.

  • What are the other options?

Edit: why would someone down vote a question? It's not like it's even a leading question.

I'll try to answer myself. Options for how a judge is put in their position:

Elected or appointed. Are there any other options?

If they are appointed then you better really trust whoever does the appointing because you will have no recourse if they are a bad fit.

  • What I mean is that people will usually see dogs as more innocent than even the most innocent human adult. Literally how most people feel about children. That type of innocence deserves to be protected, and failure to do so hurts more than the death of a stranger. It's not rational, but it's just how a lot of people feel. If those same people were to think about it rationally, they would say the loss of human lives is definitely worse.

  • It just depends on what perspective you choose. Obviously human life is more significant than dog lives, but a lot of people see dogs similar to children. A life of love and innocence that does not deserve to know violence. It's not so much comparing the value of lives but the value of innocence.

  • Exactly. You have to have a very comfortable life if the idea of having a kid doesn't scare the shit out of you... that or you're the type of person that doesn't give a shit about your kids.
