  • TikTok is the largest platform with the greatest reach where the genocide in Gaza can be discussed without being algorithmically suppressed.

  • I wonder... is it because you have little/no experience with small town America? I loved Napoleon Dynamite partly because it's somewhat nostalgic for me. The movie appeals to people who grew up in the sticks and knew people like Napoleon Dynamite.

  • That's because it's exaggerated, and the kids play into it rather than cringing and moving on like you might have when you were a kid and adults tried using your slang. The reason is that unlike previous generations, gen Z has incorporated it into youth culture as a result of the current state of the internet and has a name to call it by: brainrot.

  • Why do people engage with anything that makes them uncomfortable? Horror? Tragedy? It's just morbid curiosity. It's not a bad thing, really. Any exploration of the human condition is incomplete without a look at the darker side. Some need more light in their entertainment to help the medicine go down, and that's OK too.

  • To me, the details of the arrest report scream parallel construction. A full setup and Luigi being a patsy suggests that every detail was chosen by whoever perpetrated the conspiracy, and there are a lot of details that strike me as very bizarre choices for them to make. I find it difficult to believe that the NYPD are simultaneously competent enough to find a believable patsy and execute an elaborate setup within a few days, but incompetent enough to accidentally turn the patsy into a relatable folk hero.

  • I have the same issue with the idea that this is a setup as I do with a lot of other popular conspiracy theories, I just don't see any possible motive that makes sense. This entire situation has been a total PR nightmare for everyone who could possibly have been involved in the alleged conspiracy. That Luigi intended/expected to be caught seems to me the simplest and most likely explanation for the set of facts we have available. If I were to speculate further, I'd guess Luigi didn't expect to get as far as he did and was weighing his options while on the run, and basically just decided to turn himself in and chose a public place for his own safety.

  • American Libertarianism is an anti-establishment ideology that's been captured and twisted to support the core principle of the establishment, private property rights. At this point it's nothing more than a sick joke.

  • Use your ship log, it'll remind you of all the clues you've found so far and how they connect together. But I agree it's better to play continuously without large time gaps to keep everything you've learned fresh.

  • Anyone thinking about engaging in direct action of any kind should consider embracing the absurdity. Imagine how stupid it would make the police look to beat up on a bunch of protestors wearing puffy amogus suits. It's more than a joke, it's historically been effective in opposing authoritarianism.

  • I don't fully agree with him here, but I see where he's coming from and respect his opinion. Personally I think these cultural elements are driven by material conditions, and that it would be better to address the underlying problem of social alienation and capitalist exploitation directly.

  • Worked in a few kitchens when I was a teenager and those industrial dishwashers usually have a sink to the right of them and a flat surface to the left so you can slide trays of dishes through them from right to left. The dishwasher itself divides the dirty and clean areas so there's no cross-contamination. If one were set up so that you just slide the tray in and back out the same way I don't think that would meet hygiene standards.

  • I only watched the TV show so I don't know the backstory, but if that's the case it isn't very true to life. Such strong social safety nets in a capitalist society could only ever be instated as a result of intense pressure from a mass social movement, and even then is unlikely to last. Automation will only increase productivity - which the capitalists will simply absorb in their pursuit of infinite growth - and never make it so that people can work less.

  • If rights aren't universal they may as well not exist. To defend the rights of another is to defend your own. Remember that next time you see the rights being violated of someone you feel deserves it.

  • I'm sure Trump's concepts of a plan will fix healthcare in this country. Yup, definitely should have just waited for daddy Trump to give the healthcare industry a spanking. He's definitely not a slimy conman who will just let the insurance industry line his pockets like every other politician.

  • Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

  • How can I better explain it to you in a way you will understand?

  • Tell that to the reindeer known for enjoying Amanita Muscaria mushrooms.

  • If that were the case writing the words "deny," "defend," and "depose" on the bullet casings was a pretty stupid move, given that it calls attention to the atrocities said shareholder profits from. It seems most likely that the motive is exactly what the bullet casings suggest.

  • When you have no idea what you're talking about, you should simply say nothing.
