  • Most people who are alive didn't get raised with as many children as the post I was responding to. Your point stands but is irrelevant to the post you are responding to.

Also, that argument ignores the fact that everyone with children at one point did not. This means we already know what it's like to assume what having children was like. We then also have the experience of actually having one. So when someone tells you it's different, they've already got the "no kid" experience under their belt and can tell you how successfully they extrapolated what it meant to be a parent in that life atage.

  • Your life experience is actually so extreme that you don't know exactly how hard it is or how much it sucks. Your experience is not going to be representative of 99.9% of the populace.

You should basically never use your family life experiences growing as a reference point because of how extremely unusual it is. This is the equivalent of complaining about how hard it is to drive around town in the truckasaurus.

Unless you are intentionally misrepresenting a foster home, which is again different than having your own child or 2.

  • You are out of touch. All over the world, people use cell phones. Desktop computers require stable power and space. They also aren't cheaper than a cheap cellphone.

Even the most destitute people have cellphones these days. If the country is in good enough shape that a person could procure a computer, then cellphones are likely more available and cheaper. In fact, your cellphone is likely the source of your data connection even if you do have a laptop or some other computer in a remote area.

  • That was my experience as well. I smoked for 20 years. One month, 6 years ago, I decided to take the money I would spend on cigarettes and instead use it to buy a really nice vape and juices. This was about $200 at the time since I felt it was the best way to make sure I didn't give it up because I was being a cheapskate and not really giving it a fair shot.

For 2 weeks, I vaped 3mg juices and really liked it. I used menthol juices even though I never smoked menthol because it gave me that good throat hit and really scratched that itch. I then stepped it down to 0mg with my next purchase and went on vacation for my anniversary a week later. I didn't want to damage my nice vape, so I left it in the room for most of the day and used it only in the mornings and evenings but started to get annoyed by the effort I was taking to "make time" to smoke. I never recharged it after that trip and haven't had a cigarette since.

The stepping down that vaping offered me was invaluable, and even though I didn't get the value use of my vape, I was worth it in the long run.

  • If he bought a ticket, let him sit wherever as long as it's not an isle or fire exit. If he was occupying a wheelchair space (I believe he was) and there was actually demand for the space, then I could see asking him about moving, but once spoken to you'd know he's entitled to the space as well and it becomes first come first served, unless someone else called ahead and reserved the space.

Regardless of all that... police? Really?

  • Yeah I hope it's alright and just a cat going for the cheese and getting more than it bargained for. I know nacho cheese doesn't have to be hot to be that liquid, but I would expect more to get in their mouth if they did it themselves.

  • That was my experience on blahaj. I'd never been banned from a community, let alone one I've been an ally to before. Such a pure echo chamber that even discussing why the outside world holds the views they have, even without expressing agreement, gets you labeled a transphobe.

Honestly, it soured me on lemmy as a whole since that was the content I had been enjoying the most.
