Yeah about that: These laws get passed. They are enacted. People challenge them in court. The court strikes it down after a long time. Another slightly differently worded law with the same content gets passed and enacted. People challenge it in court...
Or well, the Authoritarian scum just ignore the courts.
What is needed is a strong resistance on every level. This needs to be brought to media attention, needs to be protested, the people behind it need to be public ousted, shamed and stripped from all power, the companies behind it need to be boycotted and sabotaged so they go out of business...
Waiting for courts to deal with things does not cut it with authoritarians. They only understand collective power against them.
The UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories Francesca Albanese had multiple panel events in Germany cancelled or kicked out of their locations by the pressure of the German government. She also reports threats of her being arrested made by the police against the event organizers.
And Joe Biden voted for the "defense of marriage" bill in 1996 to prevent states from recognizing same sex marriage. The bill was signed into law by Bill Clinton. Husband of later candidate and loser to Trump Hillary Clinton.
Almost as if the DNC is opposed to progressive politics until too much of their base has been affected by what their kids learned in college. Unless it is about genocide. The DNC would never stop supporting genocide and rather beat up their own kids on college campus.
We don't need heroes. we need people who show up regularly. And many of them.
Non resident buyers means empty homes for a larger part of the year. Because these are only speculative or holiday homes.
Taxing empty homes is good, but also more difficult to enforce.
I dont know about the UK, but the EU distinguishes between the armed wing of Hezbollah and the political wing. Hezbollah is in the Lebanese parliament and was part of the Lebanese government.
Now they did commit quite some atrocities, but by that logic waving any flag of countries like Germany, UK, France, US, China, Russia amd many more would be prohibited. Obv. if we apply same standards Israel and most of its political parties, the IDF and many of Israels "civil", organizatioms would need to be designated as terrorist groups.
Same for Hamas. Hamas has an armed wing but also a political wing that ran the civil administration of Gaza and still tries to do that, despite Israel mass slaughtering any civil servant. That the distinction between armed and civil wing is granted by the EU to Hezbollah but not to Hamas has no rational basis.
Then again the UK considers "stop oil" to be terroristic so the entire system of terror designations in the UK does not really care about employing a rational and consistent system.

Is that aspect taught in school properly?
Because i mostly remember the teachers telling me to shut up (at best) if i questioned the veracity of what they were teaching. I also got thrown out of math class for saying the method of the teacher is more complicated than what is needed.
Exams are designed so that you regurgitate mostly what you have been told. Maybe you get lucky to have a good teacher in the humanities who is open to individual thoughts and teaches how to think about things critically. Most of the time it is "here is the official and only correct interpretation of event X, place Y, article Z..."
School for the largest part leaves no space to teach about ambiguity and evolving knowledge. Even if the curriculum allows for it, the class size usually doesn't.
Which brings me back to my hypothesis. People criticizing the changed status of Pluto are feeling betrayed by school.
When authoritarian governments get coup'd and there is external influence seeking to further destabilize. Also every authoritarian dictator needs a class of people loyal to the regime, who fall into the category of people wanting power but also staying alive.
We also see many dictators that got more paranoid over time as they ruled too long, because there was no opposition to keep them in check until things exploded fully.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kontron
The corporate group was originally headquartered in Augsburg and consisted of the Kontron Europe GmbH, with its main sites in Ismaning, Augsburg, Deggendorf, and Saarbrücken (other locations included San Diego, Fremont, California, Montreal, Plzeň, Toulon, Bangalore, Taipei, Tokyo and Beijing). Kontron acquired Dolch in 2005.
In August 2017, Kontron was merged into Austrian-based S&T,[7] and was renamed Kontron Group on 1 June 2022, with its corporate headquarters in Linz
I think it is legitimate to refer to it as a German company, with most of its production still in Germany. You are right that the group is legally headquartered in Austria.

Well, someone said this was knowledge important to have in general education, so people learned it in school.
Now people are told what they learned in school is either wrong, or not important, so they shouldn't concern themselves with it.
This raises some important implications about education and its purposes, how things are taught, how "dissent" is handled during eductation and the role of schooling in manufacturing consent in Democracies, the question of how much an individual should trust the state and so on.
If you cannot express or understand these properly or if they contradict other core ideological believes of you, ending up with arguing about Pluto rather than these issues, is normal.
People who seek power being more scared that being exploitative has consequences, so they limit exploitation.
It took hundreds of years of revolts to get from absolute monarchies to representative systems in most European countries. You could argue the French revolution failed because it was succeeded by Napoleon. You could also understand it as an important step forward.
Take another example in Europe. Initial plans were to create an US style capitalism in Western Germany after WW2. However it was understood this would create a large class of disenfranchised and poor people. This would have given communism a chance to become the dominating ideology in Europe. So instead capitalism had to be coated with social security, access to opportunities by education, access to home ownership... Structures that were subsequently damaged and destroyed after the collapse of the Soviet Union as now the ruling class thought themselves to be able to exploit people with impunity. Something that will fail eventually, but get much worse until then.
It is like brushing your teeth. Yes they will get dirty again. But not having the perfect solution to keep them clean forever cannot dissuade you from brushing them regularly. On the contrary it makes it all the more important to keep brushing them.
Reusable glass bottles have their own issues, especially emissions from logistics if they are transported for longer distances.
Cleaning reusable bottles is energy intensive and uses a lot of water and chemicals. Melting and recycling glass is certainly more resource intensive than doing the same with plastics.
The best solutions to reduce resource intensity is local production and consumers bringing their own containers, going for dried instead of canned when it comes to fruits, beans and the like...
Imagine if Somalia became a functional state again. It could use its location like the Houthis in Yemen to decide who can pass through the Red Sea and by extension Suez channel.
Can't have countries leverage their location like that. Look what became out of Singapore. Just bomb them all for eternity...
You joke, but western governments regularly pull the "our surveillance is good because we aren't an authoritarian regime" trope.
Often IDF troops live in the settlements themselves. Often off duty IDF troops are part of the mobs that murder Palestinians and steal their land. They share intelligence and coordinate attacks. Their is no real distinctions between IDF and settlers. It is just created on paper so that countries like Germany can claim some deniability when they supply arms to Israel.
Continue as always. Germany wont let ethics or even their own military interests get in the way of their business interests.
Krupp supplied weapons to Poland before the Nazis invaded.
Hamas still exists. They constantly injure or kill IDF soldiers that move too close to the rubble in Gaza. In particular they keep existing i places that Israel claims to have under control and where they claimto have "eliminated" Hamas.
This shows a few things:
- Israel is only good at mass murdering Civillians with indirect fire. When it comes to fight people on the ground, they are lackluster.
- The proclaimed goals of freeing the hostages and eliminating Hamas cannot be achieved by the incompetent Israeli military.
- Israel is lying about its military goals. It is clear that their goals are the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Something for which you dont need a military, just goons with guns.
Wildfires and floods support each other.
As the green burns down it can help less with water retention and slowing down the surface runoff or stabilizing slopes through the roots.
As the floodings uproot trees or kill them in stagnant areas with prolonged suffocation of the roots, the dead trees dry quicker and become more susceptible to fire.
Climate catastrophe is fun.
We could increase the training requirements and oversight. We could design road-networks in a way that makes speeding more difficult and enact stricter speed limits.
Whenever these measures are taking in an area they greatly reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured.

BDS is a global movement calling for boycotts, divestment and ultimately sanctions of Israel and companies complicit in Israels illegal occupation and other crimes against the Palestinian people.
Microsoft provides AI tools to the Israeli army -IDF- which are used to automatically designate people as targets for bombing. Among other things a particular heinous AI is infamously named "Where's Daddy", where bombings are timed so that the target is killed upon arriving home, so their entire family is also murdered.
