  • Everything is a sin in Catholicism, because the point of the religion is that nothing you can do can escape sin.

A major difference between Catholics and Protestants is that in Catholicism you're expected to attempt to live a life as Christ wanted you to, and not just get a "free space" from Jesus for saying you believe in him.

Thus, gay people are unlikely to get Catholic marriages or become priests, but Catholics also don't think gays are inherently more evil than any other sin, as a general rule.

The Catholic Church is not immune to change, and if readings of Scripture change so that gays are seen more favorably, or that women should be allowed in the clergy (neither of which is improbable, on a long timeline), then Catholic standards will change.

  • Short answer is: You just be gay and also Catholic.

In most Catholic churches, no one is going to care that I bang dudes any more than they care that I show up on Christmas and Easter.

They care significantly more if you say "Thanks!" when receiving communion than they do that you're gay.

Catholics aren't Evangelicals and they care about radically different things.

  • I am quite certain that you are a skilled enough communicator to not say

If I had to redo my life, that’s what I’d do.

Which is directly wishing your children were never born, and is a fundamentally different conversation from "By all means, opt not to have children - our financial lives would look quite different if we did not."

As with most things, how you say it matters as much or more than what you're saying.

  • In my imagination there should be a department of deescalation specialists. No guns. No arrest powers. Maybe some snacks.

As a teacher, I had to do home visits for every student in my homeroom. Two families threatened to kill me. One by siccing their dogs on me, the other by just shooting me. The entire purpose of my visit was just to meet them and let them know I care about their kids

What do you do when these de-escalation specialists go to talk to a person who is crazy-posting, and have their lives threatened?

I don't ask this facetiously. I think this is a good idea. But these workers will run into situations like this, and more to the point, opponents of these programs will definitely bring this sort of thing up when trying to sway public opinion.

I legit don't have an answer.

  • The AMA lobbies Congress to limit the number of residencies so that doctors can make more money. They're also the reason GPs have a stranglehold on primary care.

GPs shouldn't even be doctors. They don't do anything a competent nurse can't do with a half-functioning database. Change prescription law and nuke the AMA and let the problem sort itself out.

Note that only about 15% of doctors are part of the AMA.

  • We're honestly not at a point where UBI is sustainable. However, this clearly demonstrates that replacing existing welfare with straight up cash, and changing how that cash scales down as people approach a "normal minimum" income, is vastly superior to our current system

  • No. Either way, the Israeli military retreat from Gaza reflects the heavy losses suffered by Israel’s top fighters at the hands of stiff and growing Palestinian Resistance.

Quote from the article, in case you thought this was actual news.

  • But the difference here is how Norway is my birth country, where my ancestors have lived since humans first came to this area.

    This is meaningless.

Do you think I don't disagree with the religious preferences of some people? Because I do. They're still allowed to believe whatever they want.
