They’d rather look even more incompetent with classified info than just admit whatever the real reason is or make up something fake to cover.

Every time something major breaks and it seems like everyone involved is extremely incompetent, this is what I assume.

They knew exactly what they were doing. It was intentional from start to finish. They just don't want to admit that, because then they would have to admit the real reason, and that thought terrifies them.

A plan or program to accomplish a goal is a scheme, whether it's beneficial or not.

Handing out flyers that properly define what socialism and communism are with the intent of educating people that they aren't the boogeyman is still passing out propaganda, even if it's beneficial and correct.

Not a single one replied, both parents have (according to my wife) started taking Facebook posts they've made in the past down, and my in-laws have not said a political word in over a week. It's been refreshing.

They clearly aren't ready to accept they may have been totally wrong all along, but it's nice to see they might be self-aware enough to recognize when they might be potentially maybe SOMETIMES be less than correct about specific things.
