It's free, optional IAP to get stuff faster but not in a P2W way. Everything is possible to get free if you sink in time and/or be social and trade/sell stuff for premium currency so you still can buy stuff you want.
Game is loaded with content. Steep learning curve but when the game 'clicks' you're sucked in. There is a story that will make you go "wtf?" and that part is widely known as the "you completed the 30 hour tutorial. Now the game begins".
It's playable solo, recently added cross play which makes playing with others more easy and there are parts that are public where you can interact with everyone there. That makes it feel as an MMO.

If you like MMO games with good singleplayer gameplay you can't miss with ESO. Base game covers a lot. The expansion packs will be even more.
And unlike a lot of MMO games. No monthly charges necessary but possible. If you decide to sub to ESO+ you get access to expansion stuff except the lastest one and you won't get access to the classes that got introduced in the expansions.
But.. you'll only need to buy the lastest expansion collection set to get all of that. The upgrade pack is only for people who got the previous expansions already.
I used to have a mix of In The Groove 1 and 2 on my PC. I used to had an Arcade hall locally that had the machine and that way I could play the same game at home.
This game is what got me on Stadia. Ironically Stadia was the best version of the game when it launched. It was a buggy/glitching mess on every platform except on Stadia.
I highly enjoyed the game. But since I'm someone who can really enjoy a game only once I will not rebuy the game on another platform. Good to see the game is still getting pushed to be better.
Game just cuts when the climax is almost happening.
And then "want to know what happens after this CliffHanger™? Please purchase our CliffHanger™ Season Pass Year 1 for just $34.99 to watch up to 3 endings of our games"
Not sure if you're into this. But Warframe.
