There are a couple of ways to mark a post as read - opening the post is one way, and voting is another. I think viewing a picture in the feed also marks as read.
Do you think it’s fair to say that one size does not fit all, so a giant list of self hosted options for people to choose from, is itself awesome?
The benefit of self hosting boils down to being able to make your own choices. Having a full list of options to choose from and make your own decision fits this community better (for better or worse) than someone else curating that thing for you.
This sort of school is great for adults already in the workplace. I (finally) received my degree the year I turned 40, from a school where the student receives class credit as soon as they can pass the final exam. I was already active in my industry, and was able to complete many courses without opening a book. For new topics, coursework was all self-paced and online, with professors available to answer questions most hours of the day.
I don’t think I would have finished my degree anywhere else.
Interesting! Well, hello from the north, where your picture has been my life for the last few months. I wonder if we’re about the same distance from the Equator.
Edit: I was making a reference to the US version of the office. The way the question was phrased, I could not resist. Sorry everyone who thought I was serious!
I just bookmarked this other post that seems like it would answer your question.
