  • I was referring more towards the fridge nuking scene, but then again, this is the same series that has tubing down a mountain from an airplane.

I actually like the alien reveal, and it's telegraphed throughout the movie, so it's not like it comes out of nowhere like some people claim. I also think it ties in well with the villain's mysticism as well. With the nazi's hunting for the arc or the holy grail made sense because Hitler and other members of the SS were obsessed holy relics and did dabble in trying to evoke divine powers. The Soviet Union on the other hand was mostly secular, but was experimenting in psychic manipulation and thought control all the way up until the 80s. Meanwhile the whole space race between the US and USSR breathed a fascination in extra terrestrials very similarly to the phase Americans went through. So having a psychic obsessed villain trying to seek out alien artifacts that could unlock those abilities makes sense.

  • As far as dumb but fun Will Sith movies go, it's one of them.

And thanks for reminding me, I gotta add Wild Wild West to my list.

  • TRON Legacy is one of those movies where I watch it purely for its visuals and music. It's a let down in terms of story and action, but I stop everything to look at it when its on.

  • I used to watch that movie a lot as a kid. Yeah it was dumb, but that turtle guy man.

  • Sadly no it wasn't, but I would gladly shake the hand of whoever did it.

  • X, how could you 😥

  • They're definitely fun "I want an excuse to go to the theater" movies. I remember going to 1 through 4, having a good time, but I don't remember a thing about them. In fact, the best part about the Lindsay Ellis videos was watching reviews and going "Oh wait, yeah that did happen didn't it."

  • I remember someone pulling the fire alarm and having to evacuate the theater during the climax. My parents and I decided we didn't have to finish it.

  • I actually Enjoy The Lost World: Jurassic Park, a lot, and though it's not as good as the original, it is definitely the only other good movie in the series afaic.

I also don't hate the 1998 Mathew Brodrick Godzilla Movie, and it was actually that movie that kickstarted my interest into Godzilla. I still watch it from time to time. Not as a Godzilla movie, but as a decent late 90s disaster movie.

I like Star Wars Episode 1: the Phantom Menace, but I'll admit it is purely for nostalgia. I remember the ad campaign from the time, and watching the movie warps me instantly back to 1999, eating Taco Bell and playing Pod Racing on the N64. It's not a good movie, but it brings me happiness.

Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a fun movie to watch. Sure it is insane and unrealistic, but it has some of my favorite Harrison Ford Quotes in the series, and for as CG heavy as they are, I do enjoy the action scenes. I definitely like it better than Temple of Doom, so for me, it's the 3rd best movie out of the 5.

The live action Super Mario Movie is legit a great movie if you understand that it is a way different thing from its source material. The movie has a great sense of humor, Bob Hopskins and Dennis Hopper are brilliant in their roles as Mario and Koopa, The set design is legit cool, and gives me heavy Blade Runner Vibes. And it has the best version of the Walk the Dinosaur song.

If we are going by Critical score instead of Audience: Godzilla King of the Monsters 2019. I was so hyped for that movie, and it delivered everything I ever wanted out of a Godzilla film. Much more Godzilla screen time than the 2014 movie, great fights dressed in great locations. Rodan popping out of the volcano was one of the most hype scenes I've seen in a G film. and my boy King Ghidorah! THEY. MADE. HIM. LOOK. AWESOME! The whole fight over DC was one of my favorite fights in the franchise, and me and my friend were so hyped, we were shouting up and down during our screening. Thank god no one was in the theatre with us lol. Yeah it was a dumb movie with a dumb hollow earth plot, but IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST MONSTER SMACK DOWNS EVER PUT TO FILM!

Wild Wild West is a dumb but fun Will Smith movie, and my favorite part about it is all the steam punk technology scattered throughout the film. Steam Punk is already an underserved genre, but especially so for live action films.

  • This will probably be how I meet my end someday.

  • I'm not disagreeing with the Daily Mail being a rag, but a preacher is going to have far more reach and influence than a random youtube comment, or a teenager on Twitter being way in over their head. This also isn't the only preacher or imam who thinks like this. Is there an unfair amount of attention put upon these people over well adjusted, down to earth Muslims? Absolutely, but I still get to make fun of the lunatics who are brought to my attention.

Saudi Arabia recently lifted compulsory Abaya on women in 2019, which is what most people think of when we say "burqa" requirement. That is still very recent since it was a state mandated thing, and there are still countries that require other types of covering. I mean the big news last year was the fight over the head covering law in Iran, which clearly shows not all muslims are on the same page when it comes to covering.

Look, my criticisms aren't on Islam itself. My original criticism is on this irrelevant muslim preacher and people like him being hypocrites, and how those who impose morality on others are usually doing so to cover for their own lack of self control.

  • So on your first point, when I say fundamentalist, I mean people like ISIS, the Taliban or this chucklefuck of a preacher, who may not have any religious justification for their words or actions, but impose it on others anyhow, and take any kind of deviation of their idea of Islam to be infidelity. This is the same sort of shit many fundamental Evangelicals do with Christianity, where their interpretation or ideas on the faith are imposed on others. Their actions may not be justifiable to a sane Christian or Muslim, but to them they are the true believers, and will treat anyone else as heretical.

I mean to the women who cover by choice, Especially via niqab or hijab I've always took it as a form of piety towards God, much like how habits are worn by nuns or sashes by buddhists monks. And to that extent I respect it, because they are making that choice to worship in the way they see fit. It's about their devotion to god rather than their role in society. The other points you bring out about privacy or being respected for their ideas rather than beauty, that still feels like it comes down to the weakness of men. And don't get me wrong, Western society is guilty of this as well. I don't even have to go off this site to see people objectifying women, and how women who post online often have to be very careful on what they show and reveal. A recent trend I've seen online is that women will even censor their armpits or legs in pictures, cause there is no part of the human body people won't fetishize. This is a weakness in nearly all societies, and slut and body shaming is something that still happens frequently in western cultures. For the most part though, Women can still live their day to day lives without sacrificing their own comfort or expression, and men are expected to exercise self control. To me, in places where full burqa is mandatory, it just seems like the burden is placed more upon women to make up for men's weaknesses.

Like you've said, I am a westerner living in western society (Though I have lived somewhat outside of it for a number of years) with a western perspective. But from someone who comes from a fundamentalist Christian background, who left because I was tired of the hypocrisy, I can't help but see that same hypocrisy in people like this preacher.

  • These clips were the best star wars toys we all had!

  • Same here. I would have been excited if Sony made a vita follow up, because Nintendo proved there was still a niche for handheld gaming. My biggest problem with the switch is even the lite models are too bulky to justify carrying everywhere. The Vita is the perfect size, but the platform is dead, support all but dried up, and the potential unmet.

If Vita 2 was announced tomorrow, with the same capabilities of the switch or steam deck, but with the form factor of the vita, I would preorder that day.

  • Explain how this is not exactly how it works. Isn't the whole point of internal jihad fighting against ones own weaknesses and faults to be closer to God. How is forcing beards on Men or women to cover everything but their eyes nothing more than failing in that jihad and making your own lust everyone else's problem.

  • If Turkey were to ban Kpop, Manga, games, or any other entertainment industry known for abuse and brutal conditions, it certainly wouldn't be because they care about the treatment of those employed in those industries.

  • It's amazing how much of fundamentalist Islamic culture is putting restrictions on others because these men have no self control.

  • I don't know about "MOST" as there are still a good amount of mainstream companies that advertise on the site. At least you wouldn't know it if you are still on the site constantly. And I'm mostly going on about the users there who don't like the changes there and constantly complain about them in articles or youtube, yet it is the only way they insist on engaging with their followers still.

The thing about Mastodon and Lemmy to users who exclusively use those sites is they are themselves a bubble. There are weeks I spend most of my web activity on kbin, and would believe reddit is on its death spiral. Yet I peak over there, and it's about as active as when I left it. I even see articles about reddit or twitters activity recovering that I never see get shared here, because at the end of the day, the narrative we want to hear is "Corporate site is dying, we are the future!"

  • Hell no. If there is one thing I learned from moving over to fediverse, it's that people are what make the site enjoyable or frustrating. As it is now, I enjoy the userbase here and on Mastodon, and the last thing I would want is for the most insufferable of Twitter users to come and ruin it. I'm happy most people who are quitting Twitter are joining the other alternatives. I would rather people join the fediverse as a more deliberate choice based on what we offer.

  • Except that their business model of "bUt EvErYoNe Is HeRe" or "Mastodon/Bluesky is too complicated" seems to be keeping them afloat.
