  • I thought docker was FOSS? What exactly are they charging you for?

  • Not trying to discredit the tool, but why the hell do they recommend edge as a private browser alternative?

  • 1 Dollar is too much for requiring a third party launcher

  • I don’t check the source code of something big browsers, that’s a little beyond my understanding, but that’s why there are experts for that.

The webrequest api (or rather the main parts) have already been phased out of chromium, so it’s just a matter of time until Vivaldi rebases to the newest version and gets rid of the api. (I think they said they want to delay the depreciation but acknowledged that it is inevitably coming, probably sooner than later)

    1. Same thing can be said about Vivaldi, which is based on chromium (Google). Also like you said they (librewolf, zen) can disable privacy invasive features, what they do, just like chromium based browsers do (or do not) remove google tracking
    2. Zen is open source and has no tracking by default compared to Vivaldi and will continue to support the web request api
  • I recommend trying zen (not stable yet) when it releases, it’s has a lot of Vivaldis features, but is based on Firefox and open source

  • I love Firefox because with about:config and User css you can configure it just like you want it. Also Falkon because you get a fully featured browser that runs decently on older hardware

  • If you had problems with fedora atomic aurora likely isn’t for you. Its main changes are adding stuff like codecs and drivers to the image and making distrobox more accessible. What tools do you use? Aurora-dx comes with brew preinstalled so maybe they are available there. Also using distrobox completely skips flatpak permissions so maybe that would help you

  • For me that would be Fedora (preferably KDE). I currently am on Aurora (Kinoite fork), but that’s because I value stability very highly (except for immutable and Debian nothing is stable enough).

  • Fact-check: Mao Zedong was actually born in China and spoke Chinese quite well. Don’t believe everything on the internet! /j

  • One of main reasons I want to try Mbin is having lemmy style and mastodon style content in one place and afaik piefed doesn’t offer that

  • If you are interested maybe look at this post I made comparing search engines

  • They are trying to have it as a preinstalled OS on PC handhelds that want a more dedicated gaming experience. They are already working on a device made for it

  • I have never seen one with SS, but maybe they removed that part in Germany.

  • Is this your app? If yes then sure, it’s your app you can do whatever you want with it. If you are still morally troubled then just offer a free apk for those who don’t want to pay but also don’t want fdroid (for whatever reason there is, I don’t know of any).

  • Don’t forget automatically killing orphans

  • But what about server side logging? Even if the server is open source how can one that they are actually the code they publish without changing anything if there are no audits?
