  • I would use signal if I could convince people to use signal.

I could convince people to use Signal if all their conversations were on signal and they could talk to people on WhatsApp in a seamless way.

Right now you MUST have WhatsApp if you have any kind of social life. Signal is the other app that no one has because it's kind of a pain in the ass to have two messaging apps.

I would love to switch to Signal, but inter-compatibility with WhatsApp is a must. The EU is essentially handing them a golden opportunity on a silver platter to become a mainstream app, and they are like nah, we good wtf

  • In any society, some people will be leaders, some will be followers, this is natural. You cannot have a society without someone organizing the work and setting the course.

Of those who are naturally leaders, some will be much greedier than most. Some will also be ambitious, corrupt, two faced etc.

These people will do their best to gather wealth and power for themselves, be it in a capitalist or communist system. In the capitalist system they'll become entrepreneurs if they also have good business acumen. In the communist system they'll become managers and state officials if they can also navigate politics well.

At the end of the day, the same people will get to power and will hold dictatorial control over the means of production. In communist countries a literal dictatorship seems inevitable, while capitalist ones usually favor democracy (can be better for business) but they can also descend into dictatorship.

If you disagree, show me an example where all this is not the case. I'm honestly curious

  • I work for a plastic recycling plant manufacturer, specifically for the sorting, shredding, cleaning and drying steps of plastic recycling (after that you usually have melting and extrusion before ending up with small plastic pellets that can be used to make other stuff).

I can confirm you, we have "cycling filtered grey water" cleaning. You don't need to clean up your plastic containers, just empty them. Also various chemicals will be used in the process, when necessary.

We also make de-labelers to remove the labels from plastic bottles, although this kind of label in the picture is extremely hard to remove and, afaik, either requires human labor (aka poor countries with labor conditions you don't want to think about) or just becomes waste. So yeah, this is some of the worst shit.

  • Who gave the US the power to reject negotiation proposals between Ukraine and Russia?

No one, that's what Washington is saying on the article, responding to a plea from Putin for the US to come to the negotiations table.

The "proposal" made by Putin was addressed to the US. The US said it's not on us, you should talk to Ukraine.

So I believe right now you are agreeing with Washington and disagreeing with Putin, correct?

  • There's never enough proof for some people. There are Holocaust deniers ffs

As for China, the proof is in the pudding. Can you go there and openly speak about it? Can anyone just go up to the camps unannounced and check? Or can you only go there when and how the government wants, like the Nazis did when they invited the International red cross to one of their camps and made a little movie about it to show how humane they were, and then at the end of the film they simply sent everyone there to Auschwitz?

  • Here in Italy the FIAT 500 was the first "family car" and was less than 3 meters long, the FIAT 500 Giardiniera was the station wagon version and it was 3.1 meters long. If you look at an old 500 now, you'd wonder how would a human fit inside.

Today's average SUV is over 4 meters long, with some going over 5 meters. In Japan there are Kei cars used as trucks, people movers, vans etc. The fact that you need a Jeep compass to be able to pick up your kid from school is absurd

  • I really hope the EU gives them the middle finger and tells them to apply the law in good faith, not like this.

Still can't do much for markets outside the EU though. Countries like the US, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia should implement similar laws. That would force Apple's hand.
