  • Garak: "Do you know what the sad part is, Odo? I'm a very good tailor."

  • That's because regardless of platform there is a percentage of drivers that think their understanding of the "right" way to do things is the only way, and everyone else is in the wrong. And often the problem ends up being the same drivers who "know how to drive" that mess it up for everyone else. There's a number of competing viewpoints in this thread alone and guaranteed that every one of them will agree with my point and think I'm talking about the other opinions.

    P.S. You're all wrong. :p

  • I've played some action games in the teens and was fine with it. Maybe lower frame rate at low resolution (1080) isn't as apparent as the high 4K, but I've never understood why people can't play with frame rates still far faster than film (if it's truly refreshing the frames completely and not ripping the picture of course). I suppose this argument goes the same direction as the vinyl/CD one, with both opinions dead sure they're right.

If the game is handling variations of frame rates during play badly, that's a different story. The goal is for the player to not realize there's a change and stay focused on the game.

  • The final nail in the coffin for me was when Bank of America not only charged an overdraft fee for each insufficient charge, they arranged the order highest to lowest coming out that day to maximize the potential fees.

My credit union will also charge a fee for an overdraft. One penny if I can get money in that day to cover it, and they give me a warning so I can do just that.

  • As campy as that was, even for the crew, I have to think what Spock might say: "Certainly odd, and yet it still has our ship captured." I still love that episode. As a kid the idea of gods being "just" alien visitors far beyond our understanding was genius, and as an adult understanding the much darker side of it that I didn't get as a kid (why Lt. Carolyn Palamas came back to the end scene looking all battered).

  • Less car traffic typically.

  • "But you do know who I am."

"Yes. Because you don't use a VPN, dumbass."

  • They know how to take a reservation, they just don't know how to keep a reservation.

  • This would most likely be in its own turn lane, as you don't want turning traffic that has to sometimes yield for oncoming to block others going straight. The lights give two different conditions, one where the driver has right-of-way (the arrow), and the other where it's up to the driver to determine conditions before proceeding.

In my area instead of this setup we now have two lights - one is a green arrow alone for right to turn, and the other is a yellow flashing arrow meaning to turn with caution only when it's clear. And while that may sound more obvious, when they were initially put up people had a lot of trouble with it. Just like when the first roundabouts started popping up. Now both are common and part of normal driving.

  • one trip in typical traffic

Nobody understands a lot of basic rules.

  • If, and a big if that happened, the rule that one vote to remove a Speaker is still there, and the GOP would waste not even a minute invoking it. Mainly because it would probably be undone soon after a Democrat gets the position.

  • What will always get you is doing something unusual. When working, always have a safe procedure for moving and be very careful when doing things a different way. When at home or at leisure, don't go beyond the limits of what you're used to doing without planning and prep. And know those limits! I've pulled my back a few times before and I wasn't doing anything more than usual, but I was doing it differently, and it got me.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the UN basically just a collective entity of the majority of the world's nations and not its own body? The same issues came up with Russia's invasion and how the UN couldn't do anything. The UN is more of a neutral place to talk out disagreements than a police force. I agree with everything you say, but wherever I see "UN" it needs to be "United Nations", as in the rest of the world...and how "we" are all just shrugging our shoulders and saying there's technically nothing we can do about people dying.

  • I've used FF since the first versions. It makes sense since the name is a combo of two words that start with F. I get that technically the second should be lowercase, but that looks weird. I missed Mozilla's memo on the preferred version back then...

I think with a lot of things like grammar police and such, usually if the context makes it clear what's being talked about and there's no confusion, it doesn't matter that much for informal discussion. I do admit if someone said "Fx" while talking about browser stuff, before now it would have taken a second to realize what they meant. Shows I've never seen it before.

  • Which shows he's a terrible politician, since a good one can response to a question without giving a yes or no. Isn't that a first year class, Ambiguity 101?

  • Proper mirrors would allow the driver to see most of those side blind spots, or at least tell something is there. A fish eye mirror at the bottom would catch anything missed by a flat mirror. The important thing is to not hang out in those areas when you can go ahead and pass. And don't try to squeeze through when a truck is swinging out to make a wide turn, because at some point he definitely can't see you, and may not even feel you get run over.
