  • Thanks for saying this. I’m pretty tired of people talking about how we have changed the definition of ai to include this stuff whereas I remember talking about ai in terms of things like random forests and q learning 20 years ago

  • There was a study a while ago what showed money correlated well with happiness until about 100k/yr of income in the US, at which point it flatlined. I can’t remember how long ago this was and inflation would certainly make that number high today, but it made sense other than that even at the time I thought 100k was a but low for the flatline, but I’ve lived in some of the most expensive areas of the US and in Japan through my life, so I’m sure my experiences are a very skewed.

  • What always gets me is the idea of humility in Christianity with the “Stay Humble. Pray” bumper stickers and the like.

What could be less humble than thinking that the perfect Devine creator of the universe would listen to and solve the petty problems you ask of it?

  • I was spanked as a child and am not okay, but to be fair, the childhood friends I keep up with were not spanked as children and also are not okay. Clearly we are in need of a third option.

  • Newton MessagePad 2100. I used it daily from 2008-2011 (well after I had an iPhone) for office work and everyone thought I was crazy but I loved it. I still prefer the ui for calendar/contacts/note taking compared to everything else out there.

  • Futon are made from sheets of wool (traditionally) or cotton (modern) folded over several times and then tied together. They’re very soft and fluffy but can get flat as used. Daily folding and putting away of the futon helps keep them fluffy.
