  • We have two American families in our 'hood whose husbands/wives are well into their 40s (both moved because of the situation in the States, one has a non-binary child). So, looks like it can be done.

  • There is no "EU" passport, only passports of countries in the EU. I'm pretty sure you have to be 18 to attempt to immigrate (although that doesn't stop many teenagers from going for it by working under the table until they can get a legit job to sponsor them, and pls do not think I'm encouraging that!)

  • There are tons of articles in English about the 30% ruling just search for it. There are two official government sites, again in English, but they are kind of dry.

  • There is zero chance he's kissing the ring. And I agree thinking he would convert Trump would be naive, but I don't think that was it either.

Generally speaking, the last person the orange fascist speaks with gets his attention for X amount of time. He was either doing that about something very specific, or possibly it was more of an intelligence operation, finding out what the fascist's next step around a specific issue is.

Anyway that's based on knowing Alexander fairly well. But, it could also be the other European leaders said to him "hey man, we did our trip to that asshole, now it's your turn!" (the last guess is from my wife, who knows him a bit better/longer than me).

  • Sneaky yes, but naive Alexander is absolutely not.

  • Who says those SIGNT flights are for Ukraine anymore?

  • The thing is, the US has 100,000 troops and god knows how much military materiel in Europe. America leaves NATO, you think they are just going to pick up all their people and stuff and go because we ask them to politely?

We need a European army yesterday.

  • "Apparently?" Really that's the adjective they go with?

  • Hey, I understood some of that!

Seriously though as a frequent flier thanks for the insight. Airbus for life. Um, maybe literally....

  • Otherwise on the current track the US will be unable to service it’s debt.

Not as long as virtually all commodities trade in USD and USD remains the world's reserve currency. I do get your broader point about any "revenue" raised by tariffs.

  • Hey, if they get traction, it's a start.

  • The ironic thing is that all we in Europe have done is wave a carrot in front of Turkey's face saying "reform and join us" when the reality is once we admitted CY, there was no fucking way Turkey was getting in without giving back the land they stole (and by stole, I mean stole wholesale.)

  • Turkey was in Russia due to its strangle hold on the exit from the Black Sea.

    We have misses now....

  • Unfortunately, fair point, yeah. I wish it weren't like this. I'm here, and both those places, and I have to say that my engagement with BlueSky is far higher. That said, Lemmy and Mastodon have the potential to be something very special.

  • Bold of you to assume there will be free and fair elections in four years.

  • There is one thing this orange demon gibbon could do, and OFAC knows it: make it illegal to bunker these ships. Wilbur Ross was the shit monkey's Sec Tres for a while, and he was a major ship owner and taught OFAC how it works.

It's a nuclear option though, and nobody actually, really, wants to cut off this much oil from the world's supply. That would cause inflation even worse than the dickcheese asshole's deportation plans. So, I'm betting it won't happen.

What will happen is he will give Israel permission to go full warfare with Iran.
