Zorin right now is based on Ubuntu 20.04 and GNOME 3.36, which are pretty much dated. If his friend has a gaming rig, it would be better to look for a more up to date distro
Yeah, it's doable nowadays. There are many guides that can help you pick a distro and then install what you need. If you're a beginner, usually Linux Mint is the one to go for, unless you have extremely recent hardware
I've used pCloud for three years. Initially it is a lot, especially if you're not sure if you will commit to them, but if you do, you have one less hidden big expenditure masked as subscription, which nowadays is valuable. I wish they released their Linux version through Flatpak and not Appimage, though
