If the outcome is the same whether you save up or not - you'll never be able to afford anything - why now "own" things while you can?

I liked the image I saw a few days back. Conservatives will play to your base needs (food/water, shelter, family), while Liberals/Socialists expect selflessness and assume all your needs are already met, including self-fulfilment.

Especially in the poorer and war torn regions of the world, the former is magnitudes more appealing. If non-extremist groups want to have a chance, they need to cover the bases first.

If your outlook on life is "work until you die with nothing left over", might as well take back something first. The debt will pile up one way or another.

Been on unpaid leave for six weeks until next year, as a prerequisite to not quitting. I'll start in a new department. The old department sucked.

Yesterday I got The Call. Tomorrow they have a big presentation, possibly with monetary consequences, and certain things don't work. You know, 10y tech debt 'suddenly' being a problem. So I said fine, I'll come in to talk about it.

I told them I can try to reimplement the whole module in Python and I might actually finish in time (36h notice or so). Ex boss wanted to stick with the thing that 'works', so I left. He didn't think I could do it, so we're not even trying.

Had a talk with the caller and told him what happened. He said fine, guess we'll just fall on our faces, then. We've done our part.

Bit more than 72h. We were doing a practical project at uni and had a deadline on the following Tuesday. We got to work on Saturday. We made it on time, though, everything worked. 10am that day we had a presentation scheduled.

And then somebody short-circuited one of the motor control boards and it stopped working. That's when I left to go sleep for a day.
