  • I am not religious, but I like the substance of this quote by C.S. Lewis: "If we are all going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb when it comes find us doing sensible and human things —praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts—not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs. They may break our bodies (any microbe can do that) but they need not dominate our minds."

There are always wars, rumours of wars, plagues, natural disasters, but the work remains the same as it has been for much of human history.

  • What was your experience in getting those prescribed? Was it a matter of just being overweight? Did they go over lifestyle changes as well? There was a guy at work that was going to get them prescribed. He was very overweight, but he ate horrible food, a lot of candy, and drank three monsters a day. I'll admit I got a little judgemental when he mentioned the medication. He was a good guy and I cared about him, but hard to help him see his lifestyle was probably the cause of a lot of his issues. I ultimately didn't care how he got healthy, if its a pill so be it. But hopefully the lifestyle changes are tried as well. I also think we really need to focus on the mental health aspect of it. He was really hard on himself and I found myself regularly trying to steer him away from that.

  • I followed disclosure for a while and it seemed to be mostly grifters. The big reveal never comes, meanwhile they are raking in the cash writing books and attending conferences. Some of them even have ridiculous shows on the "history" channel.

  • Gave it up about a month ago. The only reason I miss it is marketplace and getting local community news. Also local events are advertised there as well. I was trying to think of a way to get it back in a very anonymized way and block as much of the app as possible. I have adguard DNS, and a throw away email so I may do that.

  • I can think of two possibilities, either they think don't get in the way when your enemy is making a mistake. If they can get to 2026, maybe it will be a democratic landslide. Or he knows where the bodies are buried for both sides, if there ever were two sides and they are terrified of getting exposed.

  • We cancelled Amazon Prime, and I won't buy on their platform anymore. I bought something off Ebay, and sure enough it came from Amazon anyway. I guess they either dropped shipped or they fulfill their orders. I've bought a few things straight from the company and the price was the same. Shipping took a little longer, but I'll gladly wait if means not supporting these companies that grovel to dictators.

  • The bad part about Rfk jr is he probably mixes in some science with quackery. I honestly assumed all his ideas are insane. That's what's so hard about being discerning right now, you have to be on one side or the other.

  • I was really into them when I was younger, and I still enjoy music from their first few albums. They are way more pop-oriented now though. Chris Martin is very corny, but is actually a pretty talented and creative pop musician. I don't get the comparisons to Nickelback. I like them when I just want something low key, and easy to listen to. I also listen to a bunch of other "real" music as well, but for me it's not an either or thing, but just depends on mood.

  • This is only one type of intelligence and LLMs are already better at humans at regurgitating facts. But I think people really underestimate how smart the average human is. We are incredible problem solvers, and AI can't even match us in something as simple as driving a car.

  • I'm sorry but this can't be correct. I live within 30 minutes of two minor cities with plenty to do and me and my wife combined make around 100k. We live comfortably and have 50k in the bank in addition to retirement. We also have one kid. This is highly dependent on where you live. I am not saying the cost of housing, etc is not a problem but some of these numbers need to be put in context.
