  • If humans had masters and they forced us to use condoms to prevent more of us, I'm pretty sure this checks out some definition of genocide

EDIT: Russia fully takes over Ukraine and implements a law where you can no longer make children. Is this a genocide?

  • No, not really, because nazis never experienced genocide themselves, there are no such memorials and most of the Germany protesting against nazis was hardly a thing at the time afaik

Not saying these two were innoncent tho, but still feels like a really wrong place to do it, could have just followed and done it at some other place

  • Mate you gotta have a fucked up definition of protection ngl.

Yes, protecting your food or income is still a protection, even if it sounds fucked up when talking about animals.

These animals only exist in the first place because we breed them into existence.

Mate, this was literally my point. You're crying about few dead thousand, but want a genocide.

If you are iffed about my reaction to the word "protection", please watch Dominion and then tell me about where in the documentary animals are protected

Watched it years ago, but I'm pretty sure I saw walls, fences and everything else necessary to protect them from other animals killing them young.

I fully understand it's a fucked up situation, but the extreme changes you want to do will end up even more fucked up, we should just really let it run it's natural cycle because lab meat is rapidly becoming widely available and will outcompete farming animals.

Note that I hardly eat meat, mostly when offered and not wanting to say no, but I'm trying to stay objective on this whole mess

  • I have no clue why my computer is inefficient with 7z, but I did my own benchmarking and realized the compressing and uncompressing speeds between 7z and rar were night and day. Ie. To extract 4gb, for winrar it took around 6 seconds. For 7z, it was around 30.

  • "That's not true"

"But not true only if you use non-mainstream transaction method that was not part of the original design and is only supported by selected cryptos, meaning not universal"

    K

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's nice that things are improving, but it's safe to say that things will improve for AI too (energy-wise), hella lot of people now working on optimization and it looks very promising, even by just splitting large models into many smaller ones by topic

  • Ypu know what I don't hear on lemmy? People complaining that crypto world consumes more energy than AI world and one of those is far more useless in grand scheme of things.

So how comes it is A issue for AI, but everyone seemingly has forgotten about crypto?

Last I heard, securing one transaction on chain is equalivent to powering US household for many days (feel free to fact check). In comparison, generating LLM text for entire hour on your PC is pretty much the same as gaming for two hours (very approx., your gpu is unlikely at 100% load), which means gaming world is far more destructive energy wise. Are you getting triggered yet?

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but damage to the battery is done by heat, not quick charging itself. While normally quick charging does produce a lot of heat, I gotta say that I've never noticed my phone getting even warm during quick charge, so I feel like the damage done to the battery is 1/5 of the damage done to it by charging to 100% (which I never do, it's limited to 80% charge)

  • If you genuinely believe assasinating a politician is going to make others go "Wow, maybe I was wrong" and there won't be 5 replacements in line, then you're the type of person who probably celebrated 7 Oct thinking "that will show them"

  • It's kinda dissapointing that the world is going from "we should care about our data or privacy" to "why/what's the point".

Giving up on this also means privacy focused software is going to become more and more "not worth the effort" for devs.

Huge win for everyone who wants to manipulate you

  • This is the first time I heard of this and made me really curious. I tried my best to find any proof, confirmations or fact checking sites backing up this claim, but nada. Either the dude has succesfully paid literally everyone to lie, or, sometimes the truth sounds worse than a lie and our cognitive function really wants approvals for that.

If you have something solid, please send it to me, wish I could use this argument, but at this point I'd feel like yellow press
