  • I remember an article several years ago about how dismissing an opponent's argument without thinking about it gives the same dopamine hit that winning an extended argument does, but without requiring any effort. Being close minded literally feels good.

  • What list are you using on your router? I'm using Steven Black's list (which is just an amalgamation of a bunch of other lists) for my PiHole/uBlock filter list, and Firefox+uBlock Origin scored 99% (only failing the cosmetic static ad test).

  • Almost the same story here. Switched to Sync for Lemmy when it became available, left after a few months due being unhappy with it for a variety of reasons, then tried a bunch of clients (Boost, Eternity, Voyager), though I ended up choosing Boost in the end.

  • The vulnerability is in the library's logging function, which is coded in the C language. musl is also C (afaik), it's just a more modern, safer rewrite of libc.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "vulnerability in the logs". In a logger or parser, sure, but did you think text data at rest was able to reach out and attack your system?

  • A while back YouTube disabled the home feed recommendations unless you have watch history turned on. The problem is, under the old behavior if you had history turned off, it'd only recommend videos based on your recent likes and watch later playlist - in other words, it'd recommend things based on what you like to watch rather than what's popular.

This meant users with watch history turned off got better, more relevant suggestions than those subject to the normal algorithm (where you'd get constant right-wing influencer spam if you clicked on a single vaguely political video). So of course Google disabled it. Can't have a feature that prioritizes customer satisfaction over engagement, after all!

  • Yeah, I was going to say. It's been a few years since his dumb tweets would make national news every day, but this seems par for the course from what I remember. Misspelled, all-caps, grammatically incorrect word salad has been his thing since long before he was president.

  • Need to light the campfire? Prestidigitation! Also works to extinguish it.

Dropped a spoon on the ground? Prestidigitation! It's clean again!

Lost the spoon? Prestidigitation! You have a new one for twelve seconds, long enough for a quick stir.

Forgot a spice and the flavor is off? Prestidigitation! Your meal now tastes exactly how you want it to.

Need to call the party to eat? Prestidigitation! You create a flare, the sound of a chime, or just spread the smell of cooked food around.

Left the food out too long and now it's cold? Prestidigitation! It's the perfect temperature again. Also works for chilling drinks (your booze hounds will thank you).

Post-meal cleanup? Done in under a minute no matter how messy the barbarian eats, thanks once again to prestidigitation.
