yeah, It's been on for about 11 years on reddit. It's pretty much a payday loan / private lender type deal. Interested borrowers would post a request and reason for the loan, date of expected payment and interest on such loan. Lenders that are interested in the post would contact the lender. Over the years the system has worked well.

Verification system (fair for both interested parties) is in place to avoid people absconding with the lenders pay. There are bots involved to keep track of the borrowers reputation for loans paid and unpaid, same thing foes for lenders to keep it safe and transparent.

II. Keep busy with Work - I use such holidays as free Overtime shift gathering glitch. Workflow seem to be mid anyway, would rather get paid than hanging out at home alone if i can't avoid it.

Pay your self with some type of travel or self-care after this ,holiday vacationers pressure must have subsided by that time anyway.

III.An alternative will be to volunteer at hospitals to keep senior citizens company or foodbanks/ pantry or local community based need. This can be planned ahead in case necessary screening is needed.

IV. You can start a Lemmy4Lemmy holiday company discord or something adjacent to r4r SFW and or NSFW. Beware of sellers and bots though.

Can't state it better than what you have said. Keep it simple! Lemmy has a better chance of been the new silkroad than Reddit. The appeal of Reddit is that it is the general populace equivalence of an ever updating Library of Congress. What will stop Lemmy from becoming that is the lack thereof for ease of onboarding.

I wouldn't be surprised more silly moderation tools by reddit admin in the name of reducing spam wil drive users out, Lemmy fediverse should use the tech knowledge they have to set up such funnel.Else, competitors will swoop in to take it's place.
