  • I've gotten a fair amount of help off here. For now, I am alive. I see that changing, and my tone also significantly changes. đŸ€Ł

  • I'm qualified but lack extant knowledge. I defer when I don't know shit.

  • Do you really think I'm not a mod? I try to point newcomers toward the Beehaw ethos ahead of going to accusations.

  • And look how much of a shit the U.S. has historically given about these norms. What about Cambodia followed the Geneva Conventions?

It's always been an oppressive system here, but we just shifted up a gear by adding the NG.

  • I'd kindly remind you to look at the baseline expectation for this instance. You are not following it. Doubling down again here is not the right call.

  • I try to be judicious about bringing it up, as it's a state, not a core element of my beeing. Beeing known as that guy who always brings up beeing homeless isn't the best look.

  • Committing thread necromancy a month in with an ad hominem is not exactly a great way to start because it violates Beehaw's community ethos.

  • And here I figured this was about The Pirate Bay.

  • I mean, he's the founder of Street Medics Austin. I view this without fear as serendipity.

  • I've been living in an un-air-conditioned, trash-filled tool truck since October 2023. I have solar, batteries and a fan over me, but shit got hot real early this year, so this is a godsend.

  • To answer that question, Trump fucking up the bond market is both easy and obvious. A secondary explanation is private equity scooping up houses so they go off the market. And the tertiary aspect mentioned is the lack of new construction (what's elided is is the motivators for this). All this before we get to NIMBYism.

The American Dream obviously being to pay rent for life and never gain equity. You will own nothing, and you will like it.

  • Airdropping hazmat in the middle of protests has a strong whiff of "we're likely going to find out what was in those containers soon enough."

  • Funny what an IPO will do. It's nonetheless frustrating that finding news is getting more and more difficult.

  • So, your assertion is that the IRS is a good source for information about the validity of the IRS? Case law doesn't cover whether ratification actually happened, but rather that the courts are going with it.

  • Look, I've been in journalism since 1998 and off Facebook since 2014. If you want to believe I'm full of shit, you're of course free to, but that's a terrible analogy.

  • If you sole-source Wikipedia, I don't know what to tell you. But I'm not going off on a research excursion to prove myself right from things I've read over decades. It's of no import to me whether you believe me; if you're truly curious, look into it yourself. The origins of the income tax are more complex than one article can assert.

  • I'm afraid I have neither the time nor resources to come up with a monthslong investigative piece to answer that question.

  • There is no historical agreement that states ratifying the income tax itself actually happened.

  • The main thing that struck me about Seattle when I first moved there was all the hills. Coming from Phoenix, where there is zero relief unless you're on one of the sporadic mountains, navigating that kind of terrain required adjustment. My first quarter at UW, a friend took me to a rave off Pioneer Square, and we missed the last bus back to the U-District.

This being before cell phones, let alone Uber/Lyft, that was a long walk home.
