My biggest problem with karma is that it bakes in a reason for bots to repost everyone else's posts. It also encourages people to sell their high karma accounts (god knows why someone would want to buy one)
It's really fucking annoying getting "As an AI language model, I don't have personal opinions, emotions, or preferences. I can provide you with information and different perspectives on..." at the beginning of every prompt, followed by the driest, most bland answer imaginable.
Yup. I haven't logged in since Boost went down and don't intend to. Except when a link takes me there and auto-opens the app.
That said, while it's fun and informative to talk about how bad Reddit has become, I hope Lemmy can move on soon and just start being something different rather than constantly being smug about Reddit.
Saying that it's over and the Reddit won is a bit naive. The majority of the subs that I used to frequent have come back online, but they are definitely still protesting. ProgrammerHumor is making new troll rules based on majority vote every week. Madlads made everyone a mod. Many subs are posting John Oliver or troll versions of their original purpose.
It's not over. Will they succeed? Who knows. But Reddit is currently a completely different place than it was a month ago because of the ongoing protests.
Well the communities are pretty new and need time to grow. That said, it does make me a little sad that enthusiastic people might be scared off of the platform due to it being more complex. I'm just not completely sad because my racist uncle won't jump on here.
Honestly, I installed Connect while I waited for my Reddit app to be ported to Lemmy.
Now? I think I might stick with Connect altogether. The speed of development, listening to requested features, and communication is unreal. Every time I think of a nice feature that would take 2 months to show up on other apps, I come here and see an update saying that it's been added. I've only been here for less than a WEEK
Real talk, is WhatsApp more than just a text message replacement to people? I see it get brought up in talks about social media and I get very confused.
