  • That only matters of everyone is playing fair. It's pretty clear that the government is controlled by corporations, and it's kinda naive to think that we can just expect corporations to allow regulation to pass that hurts their profits. What we hear about free markets and externalities and regulations is just theory. Reality says that things will get much worse.

  • Rules and regulations are the opposite of free market capitalism. The only way to address climate change is to make society less capitalistic. The regulations required to fix climate change with capitalism would pretty much turn it into a different -ism.

And that's without considering whether billionaires will even let that happen.

  • A colorful biodiverse lawn is nice and all, but I'd prefer not to be harassed by all my neighbors, eaten alive by bugs, and be unable to use the lawn for anything other than looking at and feeling smug.

  • This is something I've noticed over time. A lot of racists aren't mad that you're accusing them of treating one race worse/better than the rest. They think that's a good thing. They're mad that you called them a dirty word.

  • Oh I didn't want to imply that Linus puts out political opinions. Of the few videos I've seen of his it's all tech hype videos. I was only giving an example of the algorithm deciding to nuke my recommendations if I watch one of his videos.

  • I didn't define it, I described it in its current form, though I definitely see how my phrasing is a bit poor. The definition is in the linked article. Almost always liberals DO want the status quo, because the status quo is capitalism. Progressives join the Democrats because where the hell else are they going to go?

It's important to point out though that when conservatives attack "liberals," they are actually attacking progressives. They see progressives joining their opponents and use to to attack both at the same time.

  • I feel like I'm yelling at a wall when I tell people that liberal doesn't mean progressive. It simply means status quo capitalists. If abortion stays as it is long enough, then liberals will argue against changing it, and progressives will fight to make it legal.

Only Americans call liberalism a left wing ideology. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism

  • If I accidently watch a Linus Tech tips video, that will be all it recommends me for the next month.

I watched a Some More News video criticizing Jordan Peterson, and Google thought "did I hear Jordan Peterson? Well in that case, here's 5 of his videos!"

Almost all content algorithms are hot garbage that are not interested in serving you what you want, just what makes money. It always ends up serving right wing nut jobs because that conspiracy theorists watch a lot of scam videos.

Edit: my little jab at Linus has nothing to do with politics. I have no idea what his views are. I only mentioned it to point out how YouTube will annihilate my recommendations if I watch a single one of his videos.

  • This man is chain smoking cigarettes, drinking straight whiskey, railing coke, and shooting up heroin all while playing with a gun, some nunchuks, and vibing with a human skull, I'm assuming during a poker game. Kick ass.
