  • Completely agree, but I’ve been seeing so many similar sentiments on Lemmy since the election. Today I saw someone comment, almost word for word, that there was no problem with Kamala’s campaign - the issue was simply that Americans are too stupid. Someone else on a totally different post commented that this election proves the Dems could run Jesus Christ himself and half the country would still reject him. And those are just two examples. This is one of more unhinged meltdowns I’ve ever seen.

  • Don’t know who downvoted you, you’re absolutely right. Just as an anecdotal example, my grandmother was an extremely intelligent and progressive Italian-American woman, but Columbus was the one thing she would never budge on. It goes back to a time when Catholics had to constantly defend their loyalty to America. I’d imagine St Patrick’s day was a similar thing. It was these immigrants’ single point of pride that other Americans would respect and understand.

  • Say what you will about the Republicans, at least they get results on their absurd culture war bullshit. Best the Dems can do for the left is ignore us completely and give us Tim Walz as a VP like we should be soooo fucking grateful

  • A pager isn’t “enemy equipment” in the same way a missile or a gun is. There were literally cell phone stores exploding in Lebanon. A 9-year-old girl died. This is 100% a fucking war crime. If someone kills a member of your family do you get to booby-trap the stove in their house so the kids get their faces melted off?

  • Because they would be labeled as a terrorist and promptly dismissed. Gandhi wasn’t perfect, but he knew how to get shit done. The US is the most destructive and lethal country in the world, just like Kamala said at the DNC.

  • Completely false. UN weapons inspectors were allowed in Iraq unconditionally from September 2022 right up until the US went to war in March 2023. They found no evidence that Iraq had any stockpiles of WMD. That kinda rained on Bush’s parade though, so his administration simply ignored those findings.

  • Completely agree. It was really frustrating to hear Bernie evoke FDR in his speech without being honest about how he accomplished so much: by packing the courts and being extremely aggressive in pushing through a real progressive agenda. It really highlights the failings of the party more than anything.
