  • Do what you want, but please stop posting jobs as remote unless you actually want to hire remote. I am applying for the posted remote job. I am open that I intend to work remote. Why the fuck am I getting an HR person on a phone screen telling me they really want people in the office??

Stop posting remote. You don’t want me and I don’t want you. We don’t need to talk!

  • A lot of people suffer when the gov shuts down but why would anyone care about people who are probably poor right? I mean, this is a political golden opportunity, what’s a few hungry kids or missed medication when politics is on the line?

  • We have reached the point where I want answers from any person or organization that is still active on twitter. They are actively legitimizing nazis. If you are on twitter, you are part of the problem. I’m not gonna draw lines around which people on a right wing reactionary platform are the “good ones” any more.

  • It is free speech as I would define it. The UAW had decided foolishly to communicate on a platform run by and for right wing reactionaries. Those asshats are free to moderate however they like, it’s their platform.

Stop using twitter you idiots! Using twitter gives legitimacy to the platform. The platform’s spreads nazi hate speech. What possible excuse does the UAW have for giving legitimacy to a nazi platform???

  • 15k units in a city the size of NY seems like peanuts to me. I would be shocked if that creates any noticeable downward pressure on housing prices in the city. Might increase the cost to travel to NYC and depress tourism a bit, but I doubt even that will be a huge effect.

  • You gotta choose. Dig messy holes at home, make friends with china, or rapacious exploitation of developing nations.

Which one do you like best?

I’m not advocating for a bunch of nasty mines in my backyard. I’m just pointing out that “not mining” is a choice that is pretty ugly also.

  • I mean reject all you want but unless you have the force of arms to keep Chinese ships out of those waters… well, them’s the breaks.

That is not a defense of Chinese imperialism, just the reality of how human tribes control territory.

If only those countries had strong ally that could easily enforce the treaties and international law. I bet modi had fun at the BRICS party. And TSMC killing that fab in AZ is surely in the best interest of the TW people.

  • Hundreds of years later, they still have to do penance for having the temerity to not just revolt against the slave masters but to win. White Europeans have been making an example of them ever since.

The history of the Americas is a pretty sad story. Not humanity at its best.

  • Seriously the epa doesn’t even bother to rate mpg in vehicles that approach rivian weight. An f250 probably gets a combined 15mpg. It weights 6k lbs vs the rivians 7k. if your only seeing a 50% cut in emissions with the switch to electric. A rivian truck is pretty much the same as an ICE car that gets around 30 combined.

There are a million reasons that drive them to make these monsters. But the climate isn’t one. I don’t care about the market forces. I care about cutting CO2 emissions. These vehicles do not help that mission today. The CEO is wrong. His vehicles don’t make sense TODAY except as a luxury product for rich people to signal their virtue. That’s it.

  • Yes. The OP is about how TODAY it is silly to use ICE. Today it is silly to pretend that electric cars are clean. They will be at some point. At that point, I will agree with the obnoxious CEO from the article. Today, he is wrong, very heavy (7-8k lbs) coal powered trucks are not clean.

    Make them smaller!

  • I feel like we are killing ourselves trying to solve the “few bad breaks but totally capable of participating” type of homelessness so that we can ignore the “I will never fit into your society” type of homeless. The solutions for the latter are much harder, both morally and financially.

It’s also politically expedient. The right loves the “worthy homeless bootstrap story” and the left loves that you can blame that homelessness on failures of capitalism. Nobody likes involuntarily committing people to long term inpatient care at public expense.

Some people get a really bad dice roll. Ignoring that doesn’t make it go away. It isn’t fair and we like stuff to be fair.

  • Not disingenuous. True. Grid power is still dirty so electric cars are still dirty. Probably about a 50% improvement in carbon emissions based on the most common fuel mix in the US for an e car.

Clean transportation by car is a luxury that we do not yet have.

  • 80k and it cuts my carbon emissions by less than half. Which might be washed out completely when you consider that a Rivian weighs over 2x what my car weighs.

Electric is the future. But it is a boutique luxury right now. A compact ICE is probably just about as good a choice for the climate as a electric mega truck. Call me back in five years.

  • Frisco is the name of a city in Texas adjacent to Dallas where the paper and a published.

Why would they not use the name of the city in which the arrest took place?

Certainly you were not just posting some smug bullshit without even bothering to open the link…

  • Treating the youth like trash is part of the human tradition. The WW2 generation sacrificed their kids to a pointless meat grinder in Vietnam. Those kids, in turn, decided to cash out the entire western world and leave a decaying husk behind for their kids. And so the world turns.

The worse we treat young people, the worse they will pass on to future generations. China has done some pretty horrible things to young people in the last 3-4 generations. Maybe much worse than anything the west has subjected it’s children to. They are paying it forward, as is the tradition.

The main point of the article is that Mao tortured xi’s dad and sent xi to shovel shit in the country. He is putting todays kids through what he thinks they deserve.

  • If you only vote every four years you are not participating in our system.

There is an election every year. There are party primaries that are critical if you have strong political views.

Participate! People should be showing up in large numbers on the second Tuesday in November if they want to get shit done.

  • To make sure that people don’t get hurt in mob scenes and to keep the level of chaos down I have an idea. Every two years we can. All get together and decide on a few people to go and occupy the halls of government for the next couple years. We can send them to act as our representatives.

  • I don’t want to kink shame the tech press, but we got to talk about the bezel fetish. These are functional devices and they need to interact with a human body, not just slowly rotate on a pedestal during a reveal event.

I guess we have no choice but to see this through. Achieve zero bezel, the press will finally be able to finish. And the the customer complaints will drive us back to sanity over the next few generations.
