Announcement stands at a high number of downvotes. The people have spoken, the admins did not listen.

I use debian, so what's to keep up with? Apt upgrade is literally everything I need. My home server doesn't take a lot of my time except when I want to tweak something or introduce something new. I dont really follow all the trendy stuff at all and just have it do what I need.

Sensitive Content Warnings? What if Im not sensitive to nudity? What if im sensitive to privacy?

I discovered a similar issue. PC desk was using 8-9W when the PC was turned OFF! My power strip was taking a bit under 1W (the little light, old), two smart bulbs as well but I'll allow those losses. An older Logitech speaker setup (2+1) was taking 6-7W, turned off! Crazy.. and illegal if it were made today (in EU). So this is completely wasted energy in my opinion.. started disconnecting the whole desk now.

I also learned that PC's draw a lot of power lol. I used to sit on my PC all day, now I know how much it cost. Even the monitor turning off splits the power draw by half.

I'd say with the abundance of solar panels today, charging EV's wouldn't be that problematic. Gasoline would be hard to get. Bio diesel would be a good alternative but im not sure new vehicles would play nice with it so like pre 2000s diesels would be good. Wood gas is an option but again, would it work on modern cars? EV's seem the easiest to fuel to me in a complete apocalypse. Thoughts?

No reason to. A while back, some publishers gave 10% off pre orders, I bought maybe one or two like that. Some do digital goodies which doesn't entice me at all (I'm DLC proof). I can download anything fast enough. So why would I pre order?

The "left" is way too broad of a grouping today. The classic political compass is 2D with left-right referring to economic and up-down (authoritarian-libertarian) to social policy. And even that is oversimplifying it, many saying it should be 3D. Grouping everyone into either A or B is I guess what humans do when their understanding of a topic is too narrow.

I find this especially funny with Trump's tariffs. You know, the mechanism with which you control the market... closing it... like leftist economic policy does. Trump is a leftist now? Any more tariffs and he'll be a complete communist! Dismantle more government and he'll be an anarchist! It just completely falls apart.

We got lenovo's in my last job. I did support software tools for internal usage. Pay was low but work was not overbearing and I could have spent my whole life there. Current job, I got a MinisForum mini PC, what does that mean?

What I find funny is competitors offering 50% more, while knowing you will be joining without knowing their internal intricacies, yet the current employer doesn't want to match it even though you are already well versed in their systems. So, as discussed, pay me 50% more or I go.

I don't know much about brave except that its chromium based and apparently removes web ads as its main feature. Why are they running ads? Why do I keep getting this browser recommended? How the fuck do they make money to be able to target me with this info? Something is off and I don't like it. I feel like the pressure to use brave isnt coming to me organically so I'm staying clear of it. I just have a bad feeling and I'll trust my gut on this.

Thats nice to hear. I still have a queue to post every day. The site has its problems but at least the community arent bootlicking nazi assholes. To me its currently a small oasis on the internet.

For your profession, there should be plenty of companies where English is spoken, irregardless of the country. In my previous company, we had engineers from all over and while English was everyones second language, it was the only common one we had so that was spoken. I'd first try to choose a country you like or where immigration is easy and focus on finding employment there.

Install a subsonic server on a synology. There are many apps that support the protocol. I use the ultrasonic android app which is FOSS and pretty much acts how you want it to. I use it to stream my collection when I'm on the road.

I mean, I'd be pissed but I'd probably still buy it, providing it was fully playable offline and the content reflected the price. I play GTA when it releases, beat it, fool around a bit and never touch it again. The last time I spent money on gta was when V released on 360, more than 10 years ago.

I don't think the point of Linux is to tinker. That would kinda make it for tinkerers only. In my view, the point of Linux is that its a kernel only and you can use it to build an OS around and build one which is easy to tinker with or one which isn't. Point is, not every system is suited for every task and the Linux kernel allows you to use it how you wish (via distros or you can make your own system around it). Why the gatekeeping?
