  • A bit of a radical view, but Albon has been one of the drivers of the season for me.

He's put that car in places that a Williams has no business being, has made faster drivers in even faster machinery look daft on a Saturday, and has done it with the shadow of his time at RBR hanging over him.

Absolutely banging season and a half so far.

  • Every sword game - maimed horrifically.

I seem to recall Bushido Blade crudely implemented this in the late 90's, introducing rudimentary disablements on a Fallout-style limb system that would slow you down if you took a slash to the leg, or render your hand ineffective if you were struck there.

The slow march into middle age is making my memories fuzzy.

  • I find it quite handy - it's a bit excessive on nearly every post, but it does add context when I don't recognise the news source, and it's useful to see whether I really need to do some more digging on the article rather than should look for other views on a story.

It's frustrating to see a comment or two on a post preview pane you're interested in though and boom, it's a bot rather than another user to engage with.

It would work really well as a plug in or tool, giving you inline information in the post itself.

  • Oh man, this is awesome - it's wonderful hearing from the practitioners of the art!

I'm just trying to figure out what driver establishing the tipping point for breaking or the ban hammer - is there any empirical data to drive these decisions, or is the fediverse user base small enough that you act on "feel" or "professional instinct"?

Managing emerging technologies fascinates me so any input - including the germs you've already volunteered - is very much appreciated 👍

  • That's a strong viewpoint and I appreciate where you're coming from, but how many votedicks does it take to derail a post? I appreciate the fediverse is reasonably small in comparison to othe headline social media sites, but does banning one or two bots or people do enough to save posts from getting bombed?

  • Thamk you for the insight, instance administrator views are valuable and unique.

At the risk of sounding like I'm presenting a bad faith argument, why ban them? I don't like the whole "free market" analogy but surely it's one of the liberating features of federated servers, being able to to largely express your votes or content as you see fit within the legal framework of the host nation. Wouldn't the odd one or two mass downvoters/upvoters/theyvoters ultimately be a statistical abberation or is the fediverse still small enough for this sort of shit to carry weight?

Open criticism of my view welcome, as always!

  • That's super awesome - both for the fostering, and for paying the cat tax in advance!

I like the idea of getting an adult cat - a bit bigger, a bit wiser, and a bit warmer to the idea of having a bed and a human to call their own.

  • Man I'd love to be able to do that and give cats a good run-in for their twilight years but I don't think I could - partly because one of the household is allergic to cats; but mainly I don't think I could deal with the repeated emotional devastation of having to let them go at a much higher rate than a "normal" pet owner.

Fair play to those that do. Pretty ballsy.

  • Same as the Unihertz Titan. I ran with that for two years and it was decent, if underpowered.

The dream is all but dead for all fourteen and a half of us QWERTY phone enthusiasts I think. A surprising number went to the Samsung Galaxy Flip models, though having used this for two years or so, I wouldn't recommend it either.

    Maybe one day...

  • That's a shame for the family, especially the wife that may well have seen him dead earlier in the evening but thought it was something normal that he was doing.

That said, it's remarkable that the only person that got hurt by his ability to control vehicle was himself, looking at the list of blunders he had made with other vehicles.

  • Purely a subjective opinion (and I apologise if the artist shows up in this thread) but is it me or does it look like the person who made the background took a step back after it was done, marvelled at how pretty it was, and enjoyed the moment before thinking "...fuck I forgot about O'Brien"?

It's a great bit of artwork but poor Miles looks like an afterthought!

  • Thanks for taking the time to get back to me, it's appreciated from across the pond.

As for point 1, I thought that would be a strength. I don't think anyone from backwardsville would vote Democrat anyway so his sexuality wouldn't be an issue, but I'd have thought a different viewpoint would have been appreciated little more amongst the blue electorate.

As for the second and third points, I guess that's a valid concern. I'm hoping that the pivot away from ancient politicians taking top roles will make more of an impact and allow those with a shorter track record to shine - very much like the Trudeaus, Attals, or Marins elsewhere in the world.

    Thanks all the same!

  • Brilliant answer, thank you for your time and effort. We seem to be in the same page - he seems to be a young and idealistic politician where he hasn't really put a foot wrong yet.

Looking at the alternatives with an outsider's perspective, there just doesn't seem to be anybody on Pete's level but I guess that's a very subjective opinion.

    Thanks all the same!

  • Brit here, coming in peace: why was Pete Butt-something not closer in the fight for the running mate slot?

He seems to be fairly sensible, youthful, a bit of charisma about him, and seems like he would represent the country well to outsiders.

  • I used to love the print Indy. It was a fantastic paper, and the Sunday edition was genuinely a great read in itself with brilliant contributors.

Ever since the print edition ceased (some may point to the launch of i as the turning point but I'm not entirely sure that's fair) the entire operation has been turned into an ad farm masquerading as a news site.

It's a cross between a tabloid and the Million Dollar Homepage nowadays, and what a shame that is. At least it keeps browser "close tab" UI devs in business mind.

  • I'm all for bringing back National Service.

And by that, I mean that everyone should be required to work two weeks in a customer service environment - in a supermarket, in an inbound call centre, or in a coffee shop.

The basic level of communication skill and empathy I've learned there has set me up reasonably well in life - and it's remarkable how far you get with another human on the other end of a phone or teller screen by just "playing the game", "appreciating that there's tickboxes needing to be checked" and "not being a cunt".

I'm not saying the solution is perfect but fuck me, it would solve a lot of entitlement problems.
