  • The entire point of an operating system is to allow your computer to run programs. Blaming users for breaking it by having installed programs, literally THE thing operating systems were invented to do, just isn't acceptable.

If you pirated the right software you used to be able to backup and restore your windows programs between installs but I doubt that's a thing that works anymore. It's easier to just use Linux and avoid having issues as frequently.

And installing windows isn't a hassle? LOL, good one. I watched someone take all day just to get windows 11 to recognize a m2 ssd once on a pretty normal run of the mill Gigabyte motherboard. During that time, an installation of arch was performed just to help troubleshoot and it worked right away.

  • At this point I don't help people with non Linux computer issues anymore. I'll happily help people with Linux because I actually know how to. If a family member wants to build a pc I'll help but if they want Windows on it, they have to figure out the licensing and installation hoop jumping themselves because this stuff is designed to be equally difficult to use for users of all skill levels. You're either typing sfc /scannow or reinstalling when that doesn't fix it. I'll gladly take the obscure and user-fixable Linux issues over having to reinstall Windows once a year.

  • One time I watched 15 minutes of the star wars christmas special. I'll never be the same again. It's so bad it's not even funny. Never watch that. You will regret it for the rest of your life.

  • Nintendo is such an unethical company that this would probably be an overall improvement for Nintendo fans. No more getting sued, copyright strikes and cease and desists just for being a fan of Nintendo games. Hell, they might even have mod support when they re-release stuff on pc. What a world that would be to live in. Do I think Microsoft is a good company? Fuck no. They're still the lesser of the two evils though, fuck Nintendo.

  • I'm going team red because I'm not booting into Windows just to play Starfield. Not having open source video drivers is a recipe to get massively fucked later on down the line as the enshitification of computers continue.

  • Homebrew computers. I started with a 8 bit z80 and kept at it until I almost got a 80486 based homebrew working. I got it to run 3 bytes of program data before crashing one time. Computers are hard. I keep hoping someone else will find the missing piece to the puzzle but I ain't getting any further with this otherwise. Homebrewers are on 286 and 386 stuff right now so they'll get to 486 eventually.

  • Is the amd rx 7700 a good card for its price point? I'm tired of getting cockblocked in Linux gaming by Nvidia drivers and it seems like a good option that isn't a downgrade from what I have. I like running games at 4k even if everything else is set to medium-low quality so I hope that the real world performance of that is at least equivalent to my 1080ti.
