I did it myself! Which obviously doesn't help you whatsoever, but if you're looking to get yours done you can:

• If you're in the 'States, then look up So-Cal Console Modding - or follow this link and check them out. - this is run by the guy who moderates the sub-reddit called r/SwitchPirates and he is about as above-reproach as you can get. The best of the best.
• Check Etsy in your area (find someone who has a lot of reviews, and guarantees their soldering work - kamikaze method is the one you want for the OLED), or even nearby. Some are happy with mail-in services.
• Facebook Marketplace. I know, its fb...but there are reputable people who do the work, depending on where you are
• Phone repair shops! Sounds odd, but 9/10 will know exactly how to do the work, since micro-soldering is their bread and butter. Show them a guide, and they'll do the work. My friend (one of the devs of Decky Loader) did this last week - took his to a phone repair shop and all is fine :)

Yep, that's on me!

I get what you mean...kinda negates the 'unique' wording there, but the outspoken downside to so, so many handhelds which are released (and touted to be) in 'competition' with the Steam Deck tend to omit them. The LeGo got closest with the right-hand side one, which is still kinda small.

I know it's worded poorly, but I can (if I peer) still see what I'm trying to convey even with how its set out there!

Well, keep an eye on RetroDECK + RomM, being friends with the RetroDECK devs, I can say they're taking that idea just as seriously as you are!!!

As an aside, I also wanted to thank you for your writing in general. I used to do a lot of writing (heck, I did three quarters of a journalism degree a lifetime ago), and the effort and quality you put into this stuff has definitely started that itch in me again…

I'd love to read more from 'our' circle of people. I find there's...not enough, which is (in part, anyway) why I like to try my best at sharing this kind of thing. Especially in an atmosphere where short videos are consumed like crazy, where A.I. can slap together (poorly) someone's writing, and where the big sites are just click-bait or begging for subscriptions and support.

Thank you for the reminder to get back to Donkey Kong! I think the last I was playing was Donkey Kong Country HD (is it a remake?!), and I was loving it. I need to revisit Tropical Freeze again!!!

I remember really enjoying Dirt Rally 2.0 (which I know, not the same - but it did have a nice Colin McRae element to that one!), but I'm not sure if I've played Colin McRae Dirt, specifically. I'll have to look it up and get it running!

...I'm not kidding! I really enjoy it, and it makes me think I'm giving something, however small, to the FOSS/Lemmy world. A small reason to favor here over elsewhere? Idk, something like that.
