If you're in a country that let's you, Buyee is a good option!
Its a auction proxy service that let's you bid on the Japanese auction sited (as well as straight-up buying). They have super affordable options that way! My hobby is buying very cheap 'junk' consoles, fixing them up and giving them new life.
Annnnd there's a strong homebrew scene for the 3DS now, so the library is extensive
I somehow never played a single COD game until the most recent one on Game Pass. Sometimes the older ones look interesting to me, but those inflated old prices for such old titles make me a lil cross. The one in space appeals to me!
...I hope maybe one day they'll come to Game Pass :)
If you filter by my username here, you can sift through my nonsense. As I'm guessing the title has given away, this is the sixth of these I have written up!
They're meant to be weekly, but I don't think I've been able to wait a full week between writing these yet!
My 3DS still comes with me on the odd work-trip! As does my DSi (I love the design of the DSi, from a hardware perspective). Their games libraries are so, so unique.
It was made by a friend, and...as far as these things go, don't you want to encourage this kind of thing? Fostering the underdogs and encouraging any kind of FOSS alternatives?
I'm on Matrix, and so are most of those who are on this server, but...this is fun!
Since getting my Steam Deck, I sold my Switch collection, since (for the most part), emulating Switch games are a breeze. Theres obviously ones which perform poorly, but the vast, vast majority run so well!
You can always get the original launch model of Switch - you can jailbreak it with a little 'jig' and its the easiest thing in the world. No mod chip required. There's even tablet-only ones, even OLEDs on aliexp if you want to have someone do they hard work for you, too!
The Steam Deck is incredibly hard to beat - Steam games, GOG, Epic and Amazon games. Emulation. Its a lot of gaming :)
(And as to frequency posting these? Lately, every 3 or 4 days!!!)
Cara Ellison. She's touched on it before, that I've noticed when writing for The Guardian - how strong videogames are for the medium of telling stories, and also for expressing art.
Matthewmatosis on YouTube, does some great work on at least the artistic choices teams make when creating the games
Critical Distance is a good site, critiquing games as a serious art form
I mean...this is in my eyes, and in my experience reading them. The thing about art is though...it's so damned subjective, so what I found related to that point, you might find is totally, totally off-the-mark!
And I can't claim any ownership of this, this is purely Gardiner's server! I just...happen to know a lot of the devs and creators in the space, and I'm slowly inviting them in because - well I guess a place like this, more focused and small where we can chat about what we love: developing for Linux, and gaming on Linux might be a nice thing!
I'd just encourage you to make a throwaway account (if you're so inclined!) and ask in the server yourself! No one can answer better than Gardiner can :)
This is literally like...idk 2 hours old at this point. No 'big' posts have been made, just me prodding the odd folk (like here) to join in and see if they like it :)
