  • I never understood why „video-podcasts“ never cought on. Everybody would host their own videos or provides peer-to-peer links and it can be presented basically like a YouTube feed in compatible apps.

As a cherry on top, a compatible app could also support YouTube and download videos from there liked piped or invidious.

  • I switched from Adobe to Affinity a few years back. The interfaces of the Affinity apps are way better and the apps work much smoother and even have fully fledged iPad versions. There was not really a learning curve for me other than googling very specific stuff every now and then.

The biggest issue is probably that there’s no feature parity between the Affinity and Adobe apps yet. So every once in a while a feature might just be missing.

I’d suggest to just check out the trial versions or even buy the apps right away if your financial situation allows it.

  • No friends there either.

Well to be fair I'm still enjoying Mastodon a lot and Pixelfed too (which is the better Instagram replacement) but pretty much everyone I follow is somebody I don't know in real life. Instagram is great to see what your extended circle of friends is doing.

  • Two main reasons I think:

    • it’s easier to make a big phone as there’s more space for all the components
    • the average consumer doesn’t use computers as much anymore, so people start using their phone for all kinds of things where they benefit from the bigger screen
  • I absolutely agree. For me the most lacking part is media creation software. Neither Adobe nor Affinity apps are available and no, GIMP is not a Photoshop replacement despite many users claiming it. The non-destructive workflow is severely lacking.

  • The battery in the Trackpad is also slowly dying and it appears to be a glue sandwich, so there’s no easy way to replace it. So whenever I gotta charge it every few weeks, I need to dig up my lightning cable just for that. I’d prefer to replace the Trackpad entirely, especially if a new generation offers more features or other hardware advantages.

  • But adding previously unseen stuff would be changing/redirecting the movie/show.

You could see this with The Wire 16:9 remake. They rescanned the original negatives that were shot in 16:9 but framed and cropped to 4:3. As a result the framing felt a bit off and the whole thing felt a bit awkward / amateurish.

  • One way this plan could fall through is if LLM tech progresses to the extent that free and open source copilots, run locally, can give result that are just as good.

MS might be in trouble then.

Performance is not great but apparently it’s not optimized at all as of right now.
