  • Short answer is that NK is pretty much self-contained. Occasional Kim might rattle his sabre but no one is too worried about it. Until they start making serious threats to the stability of other countries it's just a case of leave well enough alone.

Sure it sucks what the people of NK have to endure but it's not for other countries to tell them how they should live unless they directly ask for help or start threatening the sovereignty of other countries.

As someone else in the comments mentioned, WW2 wasn't an intervention to protect the German citizens that were being persecuted, it was a reaction to German invasion of other nations.

  • People are always shocked when I tell them I wash my hair no more frequently than once every 3 or 4 months and without conditioner. My response is that shampoo is a relatively recent invention and people's hair was perfectly fine beforehand, just as mine is now. I still wash with water every day when I shower and that does the trick just fine.

  • I don't know how helpful this will be but I'll give it a go anyway. One big difference I can immediately see between us is that you're retired whereas I am not and I find that I'm far too busy at work to think about how doomed the world is. Perhaps a hobby you can really lean into would serve the same purpose for you?

As far as social media goes I was already only on Reddit until the great exodus. By the time I found Lemmy I was already out of the habit of going onto Reddit every day and I've noticed since then I have been a lot better at ignoring the political stuff that comes across my YouTube feed unless I specifically feel like watching it.

I've been dealing with depression a lot longer than there's been an oompa loompa in the White House but I actually find it's been easier to deal with since I've been working more and distracted less by social media.

Again, I dont know how helpful you might find this but I figured it was at least worth mentioning what seems to work for me. Perhaps you might find a mix of several answers on this thread works for you. You can't solve the problems of the world but there is always a way to feel better about your little corner of it and yourself as a whole.

Edit: just wanted to clarify I'm not suggesting that you lose yourself in work to block out the noise of the world, rather that it makes the free time you do have far too precious to spend worrying about things that are well outside of your control.

  • Australian checking in.

Feeling as happy and as safe as ever. Granted, I don't pay a lot of attention to our politics cos it's just a bunch of little children fighting over who gets to play in the sandbox but it says something that I CAN be ignorant of our politics without being scared that something drastic is going to happen while I'm not looking.

My biggest concern is honestly that Australia has a habbit of following whatever inclinations big Daddy USA is following and for that reason the state of affairs over there is a little worring to me.

    But yeah, overall can't complain.

  • I have a laptop that I use for things that I find too cumbersome for a phone such as writing, things that require multiple tabs, anything official/formal. Oh and also for playing pokemon ROM hacks.

Other than that I find a phone satisfies my day to day needs.

  • This may have already been covered but whilst there might not be mammals that appear green to human eyes there are certainly mamals that appear green to the prey/predators in their environment.

Perfect example is a tiger who (to us) stands out like a sore thumb with its orange fur but is perceived as green with black stripes through the eyes of its prey, making it very well camouflaged in the jungle.
