  • Practically you would have to separate model architecture from weights. Weights are licensed as research use only, while the architecture is the actual scientific contribution. Maybe some instructions on best train the model.

Only problem is that you can't really prove if someone just retrained research weights or trained from scratch using randomized weights. Also certain alterations to the architecture are possible, so only the "headless" models are used.

I think there's some research into detecting retraining, but I can imagine it's not fool proof.

  • I mean, it's cool and all. As a Swiss citizen I've been there. But it's a small village town living from tourists (who arrive by train).

Definitely not a model for the world, but definitely something that places with slower life and simple traffic could adopt.

  • I was interviewed by a reporter about my family breaking apart during covid due to conspiracy fairytails. When she asked me about my view for the future I told her it's very grim: If humanity struggles with a challenge with a known solution (social distancing, vaccine, protect the elderly etc.) how are we going to fare with a challenge with an unknown solution (how to sequester enough CO2? How to produce enough sustainable energy reliably? How to store enough energy? etc.)?

  • Dancing. There were dark times in my life where the dance practice was the highlight of the week. You get to know people too and when you choose a style of music you like it's almost impossible to feel bad. I know of people I met there who need it as well to stay positive.

Also it's physical and mental exercise in one. Perfect.

  • Haven't eaten meat for over 10 years. Other than having to manage my feelings of superiority nothing much has changed.

Change needs to be a lot more radical than reducing global CO2 by.. maybe 20%?

If we live plant-based we'll need a lot of less land. We'd need some serious land to free up this land for the wild and rebuild eco systems. And it would still not be enough, because the rising heat will just destroy it anyway.

So expensive sequestering technology at source needs to be made mandatory globally and everybody will feel the hit of that. Producing (and sequestering) CO2 will be so expensive that the market will find viable, cheaper alternatives.

  • Also there's presedence in a lot of countries that restrict protesting in front of embassies.

For instance in Switzerland in front of US and UK embassies. Not that I'm for that. I hope the police in Bern gets reigned in soon for their conduct.

  • I mean, that is what IRC chat rooms were back in the day. Or any public chatroom from the 90s.

Realtime communication has its part. We use Slack at work all the time. But searching Slack is a horrible way of replacing missing documentation.

  • I'm not 41 yet, but even if you csn somehow make a chat room app replace the functionality of code documentation or a few simple example code snippets... should you? You're also hosting on GitHub and not on MEGA, even though you could...

  • Yup, they are trying to establish easy precedence. Quad9 has not enough funds to battle the suit, even tough they are probably the least guilty party.

Targeting DNS services is an interesting strategy, but if you know how the technology works it's also a silly one. Attacking those who only translate your request to access a site hosting copy righted content instead of the operator or host... or users for that matter.
