  • How can they even compare them? Nobody even suggested that COVID is similar to the other two. Cancer isn't even a virus and left to their own devices COVID is probably the less dangerous one.

Also cancer isn't just a single disease, there are multiple conditions that can lead to cancer and they all have different chances of survival.

  • More on 2: even though it's also transmitted via blood transfusions and other "innocent" ways, the main transmission risks are unprotected sex and shared needles when using drugs.

No way conservative, religious countries are putting up a grand effort to find a vaccine for promiscuous young people and drug users either, even if they aren't gay.

  • It's use is limited for some situations. Especially when you don't only have carry-on, some places still require you to stand in line for checkin. Then you barely have a benefit doing an online checkin.

However, more modern airports/airlines have automated the checkin process, even offer tags to print at home and automated bag drop areas.

For these situations it's pretty good to check in online and just walk past the lines.

  • People in this threat also don't seem to realize how the island of Mallorca is full of foreigners, even some just living there, but nobody speaking Spanish. In fact it's probably easier to get around with German or English in the touristic parts of Mallorca.

This is not about some poor US tourist who wasn't good enough in school back home to learn Spanish. It's about huge crowds of rowdy UK and German tourists who go to "Malle" every year for partying and getting piss drunk without any consideration of the locals.

  • Yeah, we have a country list with different security levels. The company issued laptops are only allowed in some countries, for other countries you get a special travel laptop. Not sure if China is not just entirely black-listed. Certainly just working remotely from China is a no-go. Business trips are probably okay under some conditions.

  • It's gotta be this one. Marketing works partially with the subconscious and association. They want you to get a fuzzy feeling when you see their logo or a product of theirs in a (web) store. If you don't get a fuzzy feeling, but you are reminded of the vile fascist shit you read while you saw their ad, you will avoid buying their product, even if you can't quite put the finger on it.

  • I think it's more likely that buying politicians left and right is a safer and cleaner strategy. In the US it's also very effective to capture the Supreme Court, so you can get things like Citizens United as legalize political bribes entirely.

I think that, because even an organized militia of activists won't be able do something against a professional one. You gotta capture the one with the monopoly for violence (the police and the state). When you compare with what happens everywhere else in the world, you can see the same strategy everywhere adapted to the different weaknesses for government capture (pay the dictator, pay the oligarchs, buy the media etc.).

  • Isn't that what cable channels were before? I guess some channels were owned by production companies (or at least co-owned), but a lot needed to be licensed. That's still kind of the case with older shows on today's streaming platforms, but the self-produced garbage does indeed seem to dominate.

  • As if it were so easy. You could already argue Facebook algos already facilitating genocides. Or radicalizing anti-vaxxers. And many others.

If an AI has gained the power to overthrow governments there's no servers to unplug, because we probably rely so much on it that it's similar to saying "unplug the internet" or "turn off all electricty". Or frankly: "stop using oil".
