  • I don't really get the meme.

Was on workation with my company and the hotel had a taco bell. on the outside.
First taco bell in my life, and all expenses are paid by the company.

We ate taco bell for the whole week daily for lunch (and burritos for evening, but from a proper mexican restaurant)

Normally I have a pretty weak stomach, but it seems like my stomach was never as stable as in this one week taco&burrito-only -diet

  • Coming from a country where we at least give servers minimum wages* and then they can keep their tip tax-free** on top; this still doesn't sound right.

I at least know that all** of my tips go to the server on top of what he would've get in the first place. Otherwise I'm essentially not gifting money for good service but paying part of the wage for normal service as well. And that's something that should be priced into the products, not tips.

*unless they were unemployed for years, then minimum wages don't apply for the first six months, and i guess there are some other loopholes; but in general minimum wage is the minimum

**unless its a "throw everything in a pot and then share it at the end of the month" arrangement; or if the tips is required; it must be a voluntary gift from the customer directly towards the server to not count as income

  • You can plot anything.

I use it mostly to print drawings onto birthday cards.

(btw, I totally agree that OPs results are far from look handwritten; just wanted to stand in for some benefits of plotting in general. If I would try what op does I guess I would try things very differently)

  • Benefits of a plotter in this case:

    • easier to align with the existing lines on the paper
    • the ink doesn't look printed (depending on the pen; I would use a blue ball-pen to make text look more authentic)
    • there are pressure-marks left on the paper, you wouldn't have these on regular printers
  • BMW

    Jump
  • Can confirm this.

I visited several concentration camps in different countries with my school (not mandatory on curriculum; but visiting Auschwitz is something that really brings home the horrors and that's why the school offers it to older students (together with psychological staff))

I learned about Nazi-History for 2, maybe 3 years in school.

Therefore I can say that in general we are not afraid to learn/teach about the time; to prevent that it happens again (which seemingly didn't work as a significant parts goes towards the right again... but I digress)

That said: There was never a focus on german companies. Sure, here and there you will find some references and images as a sidenote in a school history book; but nothing that was talked about long enough to got stuck in my brain.

So I wouldn't deny that some of us are a bit blind in regards to the still-running businesses that were involved with the nazis. And if someone brings it up it's often just dismissed with sth. alike "Well, at that time you had to cooperate with the nazis or ceise to exist".

But saying we're "uncomfortable" about the history is wrong in the way it was said; sure, we (at least those with my opinion) are not proud of what happened and it's not our favorite topic, but it's not like we just pretend it never happened

  • Maybe slighly off-theme, but:

    Cucumber and spring onions

They are great on lunch-sandwiches (e.g. salami, cheese, cucumber, a few spring onions) and multiply my satisfaction with just 20seconds of extra work.

It's surprising how 2-3 slices of a tasteless thing can increaae taste so much.

  • (not op)

Sure, but in this case, most of the lemmy-clients (FOSS or not) are bad.

I have problems logging into my accounts (seems like some instances want my email as a username and many clients cannot handle this after I switched accounts), some clients don't feature editing or deleting your posts, some clients don't show my saved content, some clients don't allow to see what you posted

Sure, much of this is because they started from scratch and will maybe surpass sync some day; but right now I couldn't find something that isn't worth. (didn't try infinity yet, tho)

it's not necessarily "FOSS is bad"; it's just that the current lemmy-ecosystem is in it's child shoes (I have the feeling this proverb doesn't work in english?)

That said: I use Sync4Lemmy since 5 minutes and this is my first comment; so let's see if/what it will deliver

    1. I never understood why space should be at premium. A phone does not need to be as thin as possible. 1½-2cm thickness is reasonable in my eyes, and would allow so much more ports and/or buttons. I would have use for 2-3 extra buttons.
    2. The biggest pro of two opposing ports: you could always charge your device regardless of orientation. With just a port on the bottom charging while scrolling in the bed is often uncomfortable
