  • MacBook. Probably an M2 Air.

Obviously you should talk to your wife yada yada like everyone else said, but my opinion is that a MacBook would be best. Best battery life, screens etc plus the ecosystem stuff you mentioned with her iPhone.

  • I used to pirate everything when I had no money. Now that I have money I buy games - including everything I ever pirated - and I pay for a few other subscription services that are worth or nearly worth their price. I pirate anything else.

  • Folding phones are flimsy bits of plastic-screened crap that are just as expensive as two separate, better phone and tablet. And many apps barely work anyway.

Glyph interface is a pointless gimmick.

    Under-screen cameras produce terrible images.

There are lots of reasons to hate Apple, but none of these are.

  • Indeed but this highlights a fundamental issue with phones (and all devices): because Apple can continually monetize their devices with locked-in app stores and a litany of services etc they can easily afford and are incentivised to support devices for a long time.

Device makers third-party to platform ecosystems, like Microsoft to Android (but not Windows) find it extremely difficult if not impossible to gain these sorts of long-term monetisation which incentivises maximizing profits on the sale and then immediately dropping support.

  • I've been 'blocking' irrelevant communities in the Everything feed hoping it would do something. Was not aware that there was 'filtering' which may actually do what I want. Seems to me that any blocked communities should still never be visible anywhere though?

  • All true. But he did not actually say that he thinks it's a scam or anything close to it, he just showed that a particular cryptocurrency is down, so I wouldn't jump to the assumption that he knows what he's talking about as I've experienced many videos over the years on various topics where he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • Apple uses the standard USB-PD standard for all existing wired USB-C charging, uses the QI standard for wireless, and directly contributed their magsafe technology to the next generation of the QI wireless standard, so there's no reason to think they will make iPhone wireless charging proprietary.

  • They weren't investigated for antitrust for baking stuff into the OS - it was for monopolizing various sectors and strong arming users and competitors. They're allowed to have their own browser preinstalled, they just have to let you switch easily and remove it etc.
