  • I also like the case and since the motherboard has power integrated and the CPU is in theory passively cooled, it will be quite empty since I don't have to stuff a PSU/GPU inside it. Initially, I wanted to get the Fractal Ridge but it was to long for the opening in the cupboard where it was going to sit. The SG13 seemed like the best choice, size wise and the 2 drives fit good.

I am planning on putting a 80mm fan at the back which would bring somewhat limited fresh air and on the front a 120mm fan as exhaust to remove heat from the mobo/hdds.

  • Thanks for the tip! For some reason I was searching for a similar but longer cable to the one provided but never thought to look for a SATA power extender :).

I've heard about avoiding the injection molded ones but I wanted to ask you, is it safe to power the 2 drives directly from the motherboard? The board has 2 SATA ports and the cable that comes with has 2 power SATA connectors so it should not overheat/burn the cables if they give you the option to use it? This is the board https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/N100DC-ITX/#Specification

I live in a constant fear of batteries catching fire, cables melting and other bad things happening when it comes to power :). That's why I tend to only buy original batteries, cables, power adapters.

  • But will they stop tracking and cross tracking your every move across the web? Because with all the paid options these sites offer I don't really see a mention of not tracking you. Same back then when Reddit was still alive for me, for the sub they only stopped showing you ads but there was no mention of tracking.

I mean I won't pay for Facebook ad-free thingy, I only go on the website 2-3 times a month so I could care less.

  • Thanks! I have a 2TB 970 EVO Plus, when the projects are done, I copy them to a 10TB HDD and from there they go to the cloud and NAS. So I would have to encrypt multiple drives/devices.

  • What method would be the best to encrypt a Windows 11 Pro workstation? I had my PC at home but now I got an office so I have to rely on its security that it won't be broken into.

I am a one man band and I work in video production. If someone would steal my PC/Synology NAS, they would access to my videos and all the invoices/client details. If I would use Bitlocker, I guess I would expect a lot lower performance when editing.

  • Got a 64GB refurb when they were in stock end of September, honestly I couldn't tell it was a refurb. It looked like new, the only thing that might have given it away was the carrying case, had a few small smudges but I got a Tomtoc anyway so it didn't matter anyway.

  • Vivaldi if you want chromium

  • Using privacy and Brave in the same sentence is a quite a leap.

  • Good luck, I guess? Got the first Google home, at first it was great, I was asking it tons of questions. Then the questions stopped, used it for turning on the lights and other automations. Then I installed Home Assistant and the only command Google Home got was to set a timer to know when to pull things out of the oven. Eventually I stopped doing that.

At the moment all Google/Nest Homes have their mic cut off, I only use them to stream music in my house from my NAS via Plex. So yeah..

  • I don't know about US but in the EU these things don't fly.

  • So lemmy/reddit is the place where only native speakers are discussing in their own language? I must be an outside here, I am not talking about hypothetical situations...I'm happy for you that you speak multiple languages, so do I....

  • Oh wow, we have reached this point in time. Some people tried to explain but nobody seems to care. I too use female/woman interchangeably, English is not my main language and personally I don't see any of the 2 words as demeaning or one better than the other. You do realize the rest of the world doesn't speak English at a native level so they might use words without attaching some hidden meaning behind them.

  • That's stupid and illegal in Europe since you only want to unsubscribe from emails. The few sites for which the unsub button does nothing, I usually contact them and tell them they are breaking the EU law and if they don't stop, I will report them. Works all the time.

  • Nope, I am mainly subscribed to business channels, like news and other stuff. I don't really follow youtubers, I think I have around 3-4.

  • More transparency and more control over which content will get shown to you

So I can block all the "this changes everything", "incredible thing you did not know", "mind blowing details about game x" videos from youtube? When I load Youtube I always scroll down on the main page and click don't recommend this channel on all videos that have titles like that or thumbnails with arrows, red circles or other crap thumbnails. Don't care what channel it is.

  • You might be onto something
