I'm surprised it's not a negative number.

This meshes with the news that Boeing is run by accountants, not engineers, like it used to be.

I always heard this joke as "If you hold a stoat up to your ear, you can hear the sound of your own voice, screaming."

Uh, one side is unrelenting about suppressing everyone else's rights, and has demonstrated that they're willing to take control by force and violence if they don't get 'their ideals'. If you're on that side, you're an asshole, and being 'painted' as an asshole is the least that you deserve.

To add to this, self-hosting is also best when you minimize everything - limited service, with limited functionality, on dedicated hardware that doesn't share access to your internal network or storage. Folks who use point-and-click apps to install a half dozen unauthenticated docker containers, all open to the internet, running on the same PC they store the only copy of their family photos and music/movie collection on... make me crazy.

1. Electoral reform, at all levels. Start with municipal governments by offering tax dollars to help with the transition and to educate citizens. Once a municipality has successfully held their first election under the new system, they get some more money to continue their education plans, then move up to provincial, federal, etc.
2. Boost healthcare. The state of all healthcare systems is shameful. Bonus transfer payments for strengthening the healthcare system with higher wages and benefits, lower wait times, more equal access to care, and fewer people without family doctors.
3. Get serious on the environment. Nothing else matters once you can't drink the water and breathe the air. Stop subsidizing carbon, collect carbon taxes, and direct the collected money back to individuals. Big rebates for energy efficiency projects, electric cars & charging.
4. Kickstart housing. It's not rocket surgery that cities and suburbs need higher density housing, with accessible public transit nearby.

My electric car was manufactured ONCE. It's powered by 99% green power (hydroelectric). It burns no gas/diesel, requires no oil changes. I intend on keeping it for 15+ years (my last vehicle got to 16 years before the electrical system fried).

It is better by literally every measure short of walking everywhere.

She started down the path towards being an idiot before the pandemic. Every phonecall was some new bullshit that she'd latch on to, and when I calmly tried to explain how actually worked, she'd lose her shit, scream at me, and hang up. The isolation and disinformation campaigns throughout the pandemic broke her brain.

As a little more background, the letter 'X' can be pronounced as "sh" in a lot of languages, turning tweets into 'zits' or 'shits'. I like 'Xitter' as a pejorative, pronounced 'Shitter'.

A lot of people lost their fucking minds over the course of the pandemic. My mother (formerly an intelligent and compassionate professional who owned a business in the banking and finance space) got pushed down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole over the course of the pandemic, and became a total and complete fucking moron that only gets their 'facts' from far-right blogs, youtube videos, and facebook posts that 'own the libs'.

I am no longer surprised with the level of enthusiasm these people have for intellectual poison.

The problem is the CPU effort it takes to produce 100 Xits for your timeline, then search that list for everyone on your blocklist, remove those Xits, then possibly go back to the suggestion API to get more since there are only 40 Xits left, etc. etc. is cost prohibitive... Especially when you have millions of users with thousands of accounts on their blocklists.

Total newb question -- don't these CPUs support multiple clock speeds? You could set it high on install in preparation for compiling a bunch of software, then once you're done, knock it down to 50% or less of the maximum to add longevity?
