I think it's the fact that true tolerance would allow the burning of any book. Not all copies, not banning it from circulation, but the burning of an individual symbol as a means of expressing an idea is perfectly fine in most Americans' view. I share that view, I understand the nuance of the situation at hand, I'm aware the quaran is a holy book and that it sends a strong message.
But so does burning the American flag, as a symbol, to show that America's ideals and values are dead or do not apply for the people doing the burning. American flag burning was done with the intent to express that the symbol of freedom and equality that it was pushed as was not at all representative of the America those people were experiencing. America has a problem with nationalism, so much so they tossed "under god" in a "non-mandatory" (socially reinforced) pledge of allegiance you say every day before school starts all the way until you graduate. You can imagine burning the flag pissed those nationalists off too, but their vitriol and frustration is useless and unwarranted.
If you say the culture of Islam, or the culture of the people who see that book as their most holy symbol and use it to justify violence, is unwelcome in your nation, as an individual, that's completely fine to me. I don't love the blanket statement, but I do love that you can express it without fear of retaliation from your government and with the knowledge that you are as safe expressing that belief as you are expressing one more widely agreed upon.
If I disagree with you, I should debate you, i should seek to educate you, or be louder than you with my actions and words. That's not the way of every place in the world, but it is the way of any civilized people. Any who condone violence in response, even provoked violence, are closer to animals than their fellow man.
This person's clearly never gotten their dick stuck in an unsupervised bolognese, and it shows.
I am always amazed at the amount of support and outcry I hear on the side of graffiti when it comes up on the internet. Not that it often outweighs the people who say "hands off other people's shit", but the number is still much larger than I expect.
Watching TV shows or movies that display Russia as a military superpower is almost surreal nowadays.
I was just thinking that as I was reading this post. Yeah, so they're not "right behind the US" in overall ability and preparedness, and NOW they're drained financially and their populations morale is at a low point with the drafts and the prisoner-units, who else do we have all these guns for then? Who will be the next boogeyman, and have we already laid the groundwork to say it's China?
It was only the other day I learned that the reason for this is mostly due to how they ripen, which I'm sure you already know.
For those that don't, when you pick a tomato from your garden, you've picked it at your desired color and freshness. When you buy a tomato from the supermarket (most if not all), you're buying a tomato that wasn't fully ripened on th vine, but instead is blasted with some ethylene, a naturally occurring gas that normally is produced by tomatoes actively ripening, causing the tomato to continue to mature but not develop some of the complexity of taste you get from proper vine ripening. They're often picked a little green when in super-farms because they're firmer and less prone to damaging that way, and then ripened during packaging. That, and the tomato you eat from supermarkets and fast food are all super homogenous and bred specifically for mass yield.
I like to watch a couple guys for cooking, J Kenji Lopez -alt and binging with babish are really great channels for that kind of thing.
I still sub to the Awesome Games Done Quick channel, they do the big charity speedruns. I don't watch most of them but there's a few gems in there.
Videogamedunkey is still great. His real life person stuff from earlier in his channel really turned me off from the guy, but everything else is stellar.
Electroboom is a great channel for electrical engineering knowledge, but it's broken down in a way that makes it easier to understand for people like me that don't know electrical engineering. In general a pretty entertaining watch and I always learn something or get something popular debunked.
Biggest one's I've seen pointed out are how it can affect quantum computing technology and how it might help us make nuclear fusion more attainable.
Quantum computing can be broken down by it's words. Quantum being a state that fluctuates, meaning it's not always one thing or another. Computing, well it's computing. Quantum computers then would be computers utilizing quantum mechanics in a way that I understand it as, if things are currently ran where a number can be one or zero, it could now be one AND zero at the same time. Currently this takes massive amounts of cooling as a computer chip trying to skirt the laws of physics probably runs a little extra hot. This tech could allow for massively reduced heat production once someone figures out how to factor it into the design of the parts that normally get hot. You gotta be a smart 5 year old to get it but that's my best attempt.
For nuclear fusion, the chemical reaction that occurs generates so much heat that, to contain the reaction to a size we can manage, we use more energy keeping it cooled and contained and going than we gain from harnessing it. If we can reduce the energy needed to keep it going, we could potentially have a less volatile and more sustainable source of energy that we've dreamed about as a species since we figured out what the stars really were.

Saw this earlier today on Tom's Hardware, haven't dived much deeper into the sources than that, but it seems promising that it may not be a fake
Homeowners Trying to Get Out of “We Buy Ugly Houses” Deals Find Little Relief in State, Federal Laws
A lot of advertisements around town on bad signs or handmade ones taped up saying things like:
"We buy houses with CASH, Any Home, Any Condition"
Or
"Cheap House? Need Out? We Buy Bad Homes"
From what I can tell they're usually interested in buying up properties that are neglected or in bad neighborhoods, do the absolute minimum required to re-list or turn into a rental property (bare fucking minimum, and sometimes less). Apparently they're also really predatory according to the article and don't have a lot of scruples.
7 of them. A child was born, went through a bunch of life milestones, and is now starting 1st or 2nd grade (i think? I don't know how kids work). My man's learning the basics of multiplication right now.
Be honest, you're a denuvo/DRM shill.
We don't already know it doesn't impact performance, we don't know what checks it will make, and we don't know that denuvo ACTUALLY impacts sale numbers by convincing those mean old pirates to buy their game.
Not a buzzkill, but definitely a little narrow in view on this issue. You named 'why' South Asian men get the brunt end of these memes in that they have a high population of partial-english speaking men with unrestricted internet access and a culture that tends patriarchal but then immediately ask why they get the brunt end?
In what way is this painting all South Asian men in an infantilizing light and what lead you to read so deeply into this particular image that suggests there's a dynamic of "ew, nasty foreign brown man could never get white western perfection"? That just seems like some insecurities put to page and not a genuine reading of the situation.
People absolutely make fun of other sexual harrassers, why the penchant to point out this one? Why do they need to be funny? Sexual harassment doesn't have to be mocked with a positive intent, we SHOULD call out sex pests, and when people get mad about calling out sex pests we should call those people out too.
Your whole comment gave off a patronizing vibe. It sounds you you explain away the behavior exhibited from those shitty dudes by saying it's their society and "sorry women, it happens from all angles though so why not take that frustration and be sure to distribute it evenly". That kind of of attitude is so detrimental to the overall ending of the exact situation happening in the meme.
As a side note, purely anecdotal, MOST of the goofiest, silliest-ass cat calls I've ever seen have been from that part of the world. Not to say it won't be said in Italian, German, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, Czhechian, or whatever, but they seemingly have the good sense to say it in a language they can properly contextualize so they don't become the next Show Me Your Bobs.
In the event this isn't a quote, it is now.
Does this make a polycule bed setup just a bunch of various Ace mattresses loosely strung around a room, some touching and some not?
Please use your powers for good and not such chaos
