  • I'd say instead of setting up a meeting, just take a second on a quiet day and ask how they're going, if they want any support or to talk. It still has the same positive effect, but an outright scheduled meeting feels a bit weird, my first assumption for one is negative (though again, it could just be me).

Some great points though, I'm sure they'd recognise the intent to be good.

  • I'm using a PS4 controller since my Xbox controllers are an older design that doesn't use Bluetooth. With Steam mapping the controls across in everything from UI symbols to functionality, it works spectacularly.

  • I'd say you're not using the right filtering, which honestly takes a lot of practice and sheer luck.

Usually if I get garbage results, I try neuroscience -"top 10", which would remove the generic top 10 reasons for X results. If it's still self help garbage, then try more keywords like lecture, presentation, or theory. Some searches I straight up can't figure out though, and the query ends up removing being a mess. In those cases, it's worth trying again later and seeing if you've phrased it won't.

  • May not help at all, but one thing I noticed with my prints was that if I removed it before the bed cooled, it would often warp. I've since left it until it cools to room temperature and have got much better results.

Does it warp and lift from the base plate during the print, or does it stay stuck down? The former could be because of lack of adhesive and a raft/brim/glue may help, but the latter may just be lifting it off too early.

  • Unrelated, this is a good thing to hear, I have an old MacBook air 2012 lying around, a supported OS would be handy to make use of the hardware still being in excellent condition.

  • On places like Bluesky, most articles, videos or news content I’d share would have more to do with how much I trust the person posting or sharing it than with its main body of content. I figure that someone I value has read it, and so I skip it, because reading it would feel like work and I have to deal with enough of that as it is.

Not to mention, "You won't believe this one cool thing!" type headlines (like this one) are classic clickbaiting, and nobody wants to read a 10 page article that's basically just advertising.

  • Thanks man, that's some solid advice even if my work is a lot more pliable for security. I'd also say that compliance and risk are very good motivation, if you can nmap the servers and SSH in with default credentials and zero alarms during, that could cost millions in data loss, compliance fines, and recovery efforts. Show them solid figures and it's a hell of a motivator.

  • Depending on the country, your tax laws may also let you get the full cost of job related education and conferences back. I was lucky enough that my employment funded the bulk for me, but in Australia it's a solid way to keep learning once you're in the field you're after.
