That just kicks the can down the road instead of actually solving it. The spoiler effect is still there.

And you should be especially motivated to remove the spoiler effect from our electoral systems, since it is in large part what is stopping your 3rd party from being successful. Everybody should be able to vote for who they most like, without having to worry about the spoiler effect.

It's worse. It's both, which is in part why third parties don't ever work.

And the solution is election reform, not yelling "just vote for what you believe". Because people just voting for what they believe causes spoiler candidates to spoil elections.

Not really. It's the subset of voters that have an effect on the votes of the doupoly candidates, and 3rd party voters who would never vote for the doupoly candidates by definition aren't in that subset to begin with.

Zooming out/accounting for voters abstaining doesn't actually change anything:

The overwhelming majority of Maikol's votes came from voters who didn't vote for the preexisting duopoly. However Maikol's entrance into the race was enough to split the vote with Kruger, causing the election to be won by Sahl.

The math is the same math, it still shows the spoiler effect.

Maybe we shouldn't be using an economic system whose immune system has historically lead to genocide, especially in an age where nukes are now a thing.

That's not the issue though, the issue is that they'll use it as an excuse to block progress.

Which is a prime example of how approval is a superior voting system. It is simpler than RCV, so they can't make dumb arguments like that to begin with.

I looked it up, we'd have to get about 12k signatures just to get it on the ballot. At which point it could still get shot down in court (it looks like a previous referendum to boycot isreal city wide got shot down at this stage).

So this would be quite a bit bigger of a task than just a few friends. But you're right, this is probably worth doing, or at least bringing attention to the relevant local groups which I've been meaning to join.

As always I'd prefer a better system like approval or star voting, but I'll take any progress over no progress.

Take over the DNC with actual leftists that will implement better voting systems, starting at the lower levels with grassroots campaigns, and slowly work our way up.

2nd note, RCV is better, but approval and star voting are best.

GPU/ticket scalpers take on a risk too. But we don't give a shit about them getting fucked by the risk, neither should we give a shit about landlords getting fucked. They're no different than scalpers.

But what's worse is, usually they never take on risk to begin with. Insurance companies take on the risk of actual damage. Banks take on some of the risk from the mortgage.

And usually, these landlords are operating under LLCs of some variety. So even if things went belly up, the fat cats get golden parachutes and the maintenance people get fucked.

Landlords are a scurge, and need to be ended as a social class.
