Yes I agree, that's what too often happen to me. Plus I can read a phone without using any hands. But op talked about dumbing down the reading and if they meant the medium, well there's lots of things you can read on the internet as well.

While I partly agree with you, my point was not so much the content of the laws but that some people need an invisible all seeing power to make sure that they're following them.

They have trouble empathising with others unless it also directly affects them. There are for instance a number of republican politics who only supported the LGBTQ after their own child came out as gay or what ever. And that's the best case scenario.

Religion in the US is weird though. You got the extremist kicked out from Europe and you southern state branches where pastors either moved north or stopped talking about equality for all men. What remains is non of the kindness and only cruelty and punishment that some people seem to get off on.

My own take on the morality of the laws in the Bible is that we would be better off if we more looked to the reason for the why of the laws than just reading what the law said. What spoken of in tanakh (or old testament) regarding men having sex for instance isn't about to consenting adults but a question of rape of the penetrated man. Or in an interpretation from a Danish theology, incest of a male relative. Except for the question of rape and incest, it doesn't have any bearing today regarding same sex relationships.

You can't? I find it to be a world of difference between reading a scientific reports and a youth novel for instance. Or some kind of classical literature compared to a comic book.

Jepp. Ever heard the argument from for instance atheists that you don't need the bible to know right from wrong? They are unfortunately incorrect. These guys definitely need some higher power telling them.

Yepp, also part of the reason why students and the watch tended to get on badly in Europe. The students lived under university laws and didn't mind showing it off by, among other things, carrying a sword.

For many it was very much ceremonial and status symbol to carry them though and the wakisashi was more or less never used at all.

In Sweden we tend to use iso, except sometimes on "Best before" dates. It's always fun trying to figure out if your food is going bad by, for instance, the 10th of August or the 8th of October...

For all their faults lawyers tend to speak the truth when they get into court. The risk of losing their profession is all too real.

I feel it's the same kind of people who complain regarding the same questions popping up at a forum often. I don't get why they can't just ignore them? Sure you could maybe find the answer by googling but sometimes you want to interact with others. Plus you might learn things you didn't know you should also have asked.

My feeling is that Stackexchange is the place that has taken this the furthest with the result that new people can neither ask any questions nor get any points to get more rights on the site.

I heard it said that spam is intentionally badly written because they don't want people who can figure out it's a scam to actually click the links.

Or the fun variant where you intentionally search for something in your native tongue because you want results relevant to your country and get badly translated articles that nowhere inform you that they are translated.
