  • One theory is that the body doesn't know if the sweetness is sugar or sweetener. So it produces insulin to take care of it. When the level of insulin gets too high the body tries to compensate by eating more. If that "more" is more sweetener...

  • I can't understand why crunch time has become so normalised. There's no other software development project where constantly failing to plan for the needed time requirement would be accepted. Crunch is a sign of bad project management, it isn't normal.

  • This measurably harmed the creator and it is unknown who purchased it (people speculate it was a competitor), apparently some compensation was worked out however.

Last I heard from Billet via GN was that they didn't get the offer regarding compensation until the same time Linus posted his first written response, so way late. At that point they hadn't agreed to anything. So a play of semantics for Linus?

  • This doesn't completely match what GN reported or what GN said Billet told them.

In the video, they actually mentioned that Billet's device was intended for a 3090, but "they (Billet Labs) think it should work with a 4090 too."

According GN Billet said that they told ltt that it might work for the other card but that it wasn't tested.

Additionally, the device was sent to LMG without an expectation of return. They asked for it back after the poor review, but when it was originally sent over, there were no strings attached.

This I haven't heard before but I do find that highly unlikely. Most companies aren't willing to permanently part with a prototype considering how expensive they tend to be, trade secrets and the low number they have. Billet labs are apparently a two person start up making it even more unlikely.

and it was likely mismanagement rather than malice that caused them to sell it.

I don't think personally that it was a question of malice as such but most of the criticism from GN was based on LTT being mismanaged where speed was more important than being correct. So still not a good look for them.

I also think that GN probably should have asked for comment before releasing this kind of criticism against arguably their largest competitor.

GN responded to this in a follow-up. I think they said something along the lines that they don't do it for other companies either. I'm personally a bit divided. Most of the information presented was factual and not of the nature "he said she said" with the exception of the Billet question. The size difference (especially when in similar scenes) could also be seen as a reason not to reach out so that the story isn't buried by the larger companies reach and resources.

Important considerations, especially considering Linus first response where I felt he played around with semantics a lot. What I like about GN is that they always seem to back things up with references.

  • I mean people hate Walmart and yet they make a ton of money.

The difference to Walmart is that there are alternatives, especially these days, to Tesla. Walmart on the other hand is known to push out smaller retailers in the town they settle into. The option for people can be really slim regardless if you like them or not.

  • No one cares about the rich assholes who own other car companies, so why Tesla? For example Toyota were some of the biggest campaign donors to Trump.

Because the others know to keep their mouths shut and not draw attention to themselves. Also F Toyota for being donors.

Also what does this have to do with Fuck Cars? This is about the minutiae of car culture... We should be talking about trains and bicycles here.

This I totally agree with though. I would perhaps also include cars in the capacity of how they hurt our cities for instance, but in this case it's not like the article said that the Tesla owners bought bikes instead.

Iirc many Tesla owners were/are left leaning and I'm guessing many of them bought a Tesla in a combination of tech enthusiasm and wanting avoiding fossil fuel. The same group of people are probably more positive to, for instance, 15 min cities. So it's likely that some members here own a Tesla.

  • Jepp, it's quite impossible to discuss with them even though I keep on trying. Many of them can't even admit that their reading of the text is also an interpretation or that interpretations also has been made during the translation of the texts.

I much prefer the traditional Jewish tradition to argue with the text (and god) for the benefit of human kind. But that takes a deep knowledge and understanding of the texts that most people lack.

  • While I bet there's exceptions what has been the general trend for conservative is that they are pleased with the status quo. They are on top and therefore don't want things to change. When you're not satisfied you tend to not be as patient. It also help to lack empathy for people not as lucky. Considering that you, commendably, can see the need for change you obviously belong to a different group.

What is new is that the once who call themselves conservative now instead strive to change things due to a lack of control. They want to go back to the point where they feel they had control, power, and privilege over others.

And when a group of people who lacks empathy want to take back power it can get dangerous very fast. Suck as January 6:th...

  • While I bet that it goes faster if you already lacked empathy there is research that indicate that coming into money makes you less empathetic.

And then of course there's also the exceptions, like Keanu Reeves and Brendan Fraser (from what I've heard at least).

  • I would also prefer if people just acted out of empathy but I believe some people just can't. Ironically while many claim that autistic can't they are often more empathetic than others.

What I really dislike with this kind of Christians is that they have so much text regarding compassion but they still just care about the parts that can be used to judge others. even though they claim to read the Bible literally. Which of course they don't.
