  • That's centrist copium really. This shit is making the news everywhere and it's turning young voters against him. There are 10 years' worth of voters today who weren't eligible 10 years ago and most of them (especially if you only count democrats) are not happy about what's going on. This is to say nothing of the Muslim voters who are destroying Biden's chances in multiple swing states.

  • So why does this conflict in Palestine in which the US isn’t even an active party suddenly evoke such an emotional response?

Because the US is by all means an active party. The US is selling Israel weapons (including weapons Biden has been bypassing Congress to sell), defending them on the international stage and literally sent them aircraft carriers to prevent anyone in the region from taking action. People have been found guilty in the Numenberg trials for less and people aren't liking the man who's supposed to represent them doing these things.

  • They’ve got a fucking horrible government and there’s an undercurrent of nasty, nationalist Israelis, including literal Jewish supremacists.

Let me just say: It's not an undercurrent. The right wing in Israel has been dominant for a long time and is growing. I understand you want to distinguish yourself from Antisemites, but their government is accurately representing their constituents. It's just that more than half their constituents see nothing wrong with genociding Muslims for Lebensraum.

  • Uh... No? Polls have consistently shown that Biden is losing younger voters over this issue. And let's not forget that there are multiple swing states (Michigan is just the most famous one) where losing Muslim votes is enough to cost Biden the state. Enough Americans care about Gaza to cost Biden the election.

  • The thing is: You need young people to support old people. This is irrespective of economic model; an upside down pyramid just isn't a sustainable demographical situation. This could change as automation gets better, but for now both UBI and increasing birth rates are necessary. You can see this now in Japan needing foreign workers because there are more jobs that need to be done than people.

  • Israel would collapse or have no ability to prosecute their war against the Palestinians?

Not collapse, but they wouldn't be able to continue bombing Gaza to the ground. I can't find the source (Edit: But their reserves are too limited). They'd also need to actually think of their neighbors' responses to their actions (remember how Sisi threatened to go to war over Gaza until Blinken had a "talk" with him), but let's set that aside because it's not something Biden can control single-handedly.

Biden has been bypassing Congress to send them weapons, pressing Congress for Israeli aid and on top of all that defending them at the UN (preventing measures such as UN-led sanctions from taking place). These are things Biden could stop doing right now that would materially impact Israel's campaign in Gaza, and the fact that he's not doing that is causing him to hemorrhage voters.

  • The only way it makes sense is if the people who’d not vote over Israel don’t actually care about Palestineans so much as being on the “right”/socially cool side of the issue.

This statement is incredibly disrespectful to the people who are currently losing relatives in the 10s and 100s due to Biden's actions. Like hell they're not in this to be on the socially cool side of an issue shut the fuck up.

  • I don't see that being the case tbh. Netanyahu said the IDF would enter Rafah, ceasefire or no ceasefire. And Hamas stated they wouldn't accept any temporary ceasefire agreements. While Netanyahu could be pressured by Biden to change his position (though I doubt it), there's just no reason for Hamas to accept an agreement that doesn't prevent Israel from continuing their genocide next month.

  • I mean I'm 100% sure I can find many since Israeli bombing of Gaza is a daily occurrence, but I've already stated that the 2023 "ceasefire" was between the PIJ and IDF. Hamas has nothing to do with it. Are you intentionally ignoring that part?
