Because without a permanent ceasefire none of this shit is gonna stop. Israel has been very clear they're gonna invade Rafah either way (not that they can be believed either way, but they didn't even try to lie), so unless someone prevents them from doing that negotiations are meaningless.

As you say, they have very little leverage. What they can offer is returning the hostages and a guarantee of safety for Israel and in exchange, they can get peace and relative freedom.

The only peace Gaza is getting out of an Israeli occupation is a worse version of the West Bank.

Mostly because he sucks. Gaza and the border are the two big things depressing turnout this voter cycle (the former doesn't need explanation, and many people were gonna vote for him specifically so the latter doesn't happen), and he's just not doing enough to make people want to vote for him.

The time to say that was before the last ceasefire. And before Israel explicitly stated they'll attack Rafah, with or without a ceasefire.

Literally yes if the temporary ceasefire will just let Israel continue their genocide in six weeks. Hamas has been pretty clear they won't accept anything less than a permanent ceasefire (or as permanent as one with Israel can get) after the mess that is the last one.
