  • FTA:

The stop work order from the federal justice department was received last week by advocacy groups that receive federal funding, including Acacia Center for Justice, which supports Colorado’s network. Colorado advocates announced Monday evening that the order means it must suspend operations inside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Aurora and the immigration courthouse in downtown Denver.

It's still not a good thing, but it carries a different meaning than the headline implies. This is closer to firing the agency on your payroll, rather than blocking the efforts of an independent agency.

  • I wish they had anything with a long-term vision, even one as bad as that.

Parents with young children are very easy to exploit due to a lack of options. They can't just quit/move/start a riot, because they have to worry about their child. They also tend to be very afraid (of many things), which is the Republican bread and butter.

  • One of the biggest problems with this country is that most of them aren't unconstitutional. Sure there are exceptions (which others will name), but we've been building up the president to be a king for a very long time. We've counted on elections and Congress to prevent that, which is amazing that it didn't implode sooner.

  • 4 hours and 52 comments, and not a single mention of what we all knew even before Avenue Q:

The Internet is for porn. Everything else is just what happens between porn.

More seriously, my desktop is where I do larger research that will require more than a couple of tabs. Little to no gaming there. Other PCs are mainly for videos.

  • Some of it is certainly the camera angle and perspective. Everyone except Newsom seems to have a lean.

However, you can also see pretty easily that trump's lean is far more pronounced. It's also not the first time it's come up. Trump's had a noticeable forward lean for years.

  • That statement requires an awfully large asterisk.

Yes, California pays the most in taxes, but only because the population is so much larger. It also gets most of the back. Whether California is a "giver" or a "taker" state depends on exactly how you measure it, and what year. Regardless, it's always very close to even.

But yes, the premise of federal disaster aide is horribly broken. It shouldn't work as a Congressional GoFundMe after each disaster hits, where donors get to decide if they "deserve" the money. Either Congress has disaster aide setup, or it doesn't. That needs to apply to California, Florida, or wherever.

  • If California leaves, I really don't see the rest of the country showing any unity. Oregon and Washington would immediately leave to join the new country of California. Texas leaves because fuck everyone else. Oklahoma (and others) would leave expecting to join Texas, but won't be allowed in.

The rest will fall apart in their own way.
